I’m not the type of person to just ask God for anything, like he’s a floating invisible vending machine, But I do pray for him to reveal himself to me in any way. I’ve seen other’s testimonies of how he did it for them, but there’s one problem. He doesn’t answer mine. Not in any way. I pray to get to know him, but he won’t help me. I really need help. 😦

Don’t give up. That you have faith to keep at it is, in a way, an answer. His is often the still small voice in the storm. I also pray that He reveal Himself to me. But often times I only see it in hindsight. He has always been with me, and always will. But sometimes I forget that. Especially after a bad day. Some days I’d rather trade in this life for another one. One less complicated. So, you aren’t alone in this. I think we all sometimes forget to thank God even in times of dryness.

Hi! Welcome to the forums.
I have a couple of questions:
Do you expect a big “revelation”? In what way do you desire that God revel Himself to you?
Do you ever enjoy a beautiful sunrise? Do you marvel at a child’s laughter and giggles?
Do you see beauty in other people, flowers, art?
Do you love the gift of music?
Are you blessed with health? Do you have job that sustains you?
What are you missing out on?
I’m asking you these things not to criticize or to tell you that you are doing anything “wrong”. I want to illustrate that God doesn’t make a big deal of showing Himself to us. It’s incumbent on us to realize His presence in our lives…in the small things are well as the miracles that people love to share with us. If you want to see God…open your heart first. Recognize your blessings, and be the hands and feet of Christ to others. THEN you will experience God…you will work with Jesus to lift others up, and you will feel the inspiration of the Holy Spirit at work in your life.
Some of us won’t get to see Him until we arrive in heaven. It’s ok. We know He is present. He is truly present in the Blessed Sacrament at every Mass, and on display at Adoration.
Go. Receive. Understand that He is with you, and He loves you. Even without bells and whistles.
May God bless you abundantly, dear one.

Question #1: I don’t expect a big revelation, just something to know he’s there at all.
#2:Yes to both questions.
#3: Yes to all 3 questions.
#4: Definitely!
#5: Yes to the first question. I’m 13, so I don’t have a job.
#6: A miracle.

He doesn’t have to make a giant, miraculous miracle for me, but I do acknowledge he does that for other people. I’m not special enough. There are over 7 billion other humans out there. I read this one guy’s post and he stated he told God he was thirsty and a cup of coffee miraculously appeared. Of course I don’t believe that, but miracles do happen to people. Just not me. I feel as if I’m not praying to anything whatsoever. My faith is starting to waver, that’s why I want God to reveal himself to me. I know he doesn’t say ‘yes’ to all prayers, but I feel as if he didn’t say it to any of mine.

Hi, Nanotwerp! (love, love, love the screen name :D)

For me your question has two possible meanings, and I’m not sure which you intended.

The first thing I thought was, “Nanotwerp is looking for a big sign from God, some big miracle to prove Himself.”

Then I thought, “No, Nanotwerp is asking God to make his/her heart open to His working in his/her life.”

If it’s the first question, be careful. Jesus had harsh words for the Temple leaders who were seeking a sign:
38 Hereupon some of the scribes and Pharisees answered him, Master, may we see a sign from thee? 39 He answered them, The generation that asks for a sign is a wicked and unfaithful generation; the only sign that will be given it is the sign of the prophet Jonas. 40 Jonas was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea-beast, and the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Matthew 12:38-40

And now my advice to you applies whether you intended the first or second of my interpretations.

Read the scriptures. The scriptures are the inspired Word of God, and He reveals Himself there to our hearts. The Psalms reveal God’s actions through the history of the Jewish people. They also reveal a right attitude of ours towards God’s hand in our lives. The gospels reveal Christ to us in a very direct way. The letters of the Apostles reveal God’s plan of salvation and exhort us to live as God desires. I could go on an on – but if you seek God, spend time in His word.

I’d say more, just I feel inspired now to go spend some time in the first book of Samuel 👍

Even at 46 years old, I still have pretty vivid memories of what it was like to be 13…

Dear one, you are precious to God, in spite of the fact that there are over 7 billion people on the planet.

God may not give you the miracle you seek at this moment because you aren’t ready for it, or perhaps He’s giving you little miracles all the time, and you just aren’t seeing them because you’re looking for something more scientifically undeniable.

OK, so sometimes I think to myself, “I’m sick of being alone today,” and suddenly the phone rings and a friend invites me over. Or I’ll be thirsty, like you said in your post, and my son will walk over and hand me a glass of tea without my asking him. Or I’ll be asking Him for help with a deadline I can’t possibly make, and my job may even be on the line, and suddenly every obstacle becomes obsolete, like they never existed, and the work is finished, seemingly miraculously.

Other times I’ll ask God for a good parking spot because my foot (which is killing me that day) hurts like crazy – but the only spot is the furthest one from the store. Poop, God said “no.” But then as I’m walking into the store, I run into someone who needs help and I can give them assistance – God’s given me a gift in that moment to serve Him in others.

Well, I could go on and on with examples of times God has said “no” to my initial request, but amazing things happened because I didn’t get what I wanted – amazing, almost miraculous coincidences of being helped, or getting what I needed (and as a mom, I have some serious my-child’s-welfare-depends-on-it kinds of needs), or opportunities opening up (like getting to sing at the installation mass of our new Archbishop!), or developing a lifelong friend because I just happened to attend that daily mass at that one church on that one day 😃

It takes training of the mind and heart – and right now, your mind and heart are beginning to grow and blossom in ways that will sometimes overwhelm you! You get to practice looking for God’s miracles. But don’t look for OTHER people’s miracles – the ones you read about online or heard about on youtube. God’s miracles for you will be yours alone, ones that are for your good, for your growth in holiness, and for God to shower His Love upon you.

Hang in there, dear one. When I first replied I didn’t realize how very young you are. I still recommend reading the Bible. I’d also like to add that you talk with your parents and other adult relatives. Talk with the youth leader (or whatever they’re called) at your parish. Talk with your pastor. Get face-to-face and have a conversation about this. You might be surprised how much it helps your heart and your faith.

You are dearly loved by God – the King and Creator of the Universe!

God bless you!

Well, God does answer all prayers. Sometimes the answer is “no”.
Not because God is mean, or not noticing you, or ignoring you. He’s not like that. God is crazy in love with you. He wants you to just trust Him. Trusting and waiting is hard for people of every age. All of us. It’s not a matter of youth.
If I were you, I would invest in a book on the lives of the Saints. There’s oodles of them out there, maybe you can even get on at a library. Many of the Saints felt as you do. They were discouraged, and waiting for God to make a move. The ways that they discovered God in their lives are varied and fascinating. One day you will have a story to tell. It may be a flashy story, or it may be a simple revelation, a simple feeling of being loved by God.
Say your guardian angel prayer every day…pray a decade of the rosary daily…start small. I guarantee if your heart is open to Him, He will reveal His love for you. It might be in a very tangible way, or it may be in the sure knowledge that He is present in your life.
Be patient. He does say “yes” to you. Your inquiry into His life is just the beginning of a close relationship. I’ll pray for you. I’ll pray that you are blessed with a sign, no matter how small. Are you open to recognizing it? I think so. Keep praying, stay true to the Word of God. Read something out of the New Testament daily.
There’s a cool website: www.sacredspace.ie
It’s a place where you enter into a very brief prayer…5 minutes tops. Look into it. I think you might like it…it might bring you some peace.
Let us know how it goes for you. People do care and understand.
Peace!

Thank you! You’re probably the only person other than me who thinks my username is clever. And thank you for your words of encouragement, and what you said really made sense. I can’t talk to my parents about it to an extent. They are Protestant, and I’m Catholic. My parents (Father, especially) are anti-Catholicism and in denial of it all. They get so mad when I talk about Catholicism and threaten to punish me (belt usually) if I do. If they knew I was on this site, I would be punished, but they don’t. I know deep that Protestantism isn’t right but they refuse to listen to me a bit. When I told my father about the ‘gates of hell shall not rise against it’ segment, he said ‘Well, it did.’ . He sounded outrageous. And now he talks about how no Christian denomination has the full truth. He reads anti-Catholic sources, and since he heard an (probably anti-Catholic) professor talk bad about the Catholic Church, he’s going with that. It is getting so bad, that he literally said the Catholic Church is a part of the Illuminati, and that they control the Internet, when he couldn’t find anything bad about the Catholic Church. Not to add to the fact my mother is as good as insane right now, since my grandmother has cancer and all (she’s doing OK). She uses the quote in the bible ‘to be of a child’ to mean that she needn’t learn anything about anything. I should use the ‘test all spirits’ quote on her. But she won’t listen. He won’t listen. None of them listen.

Hi Nanotwerp,

I think its great that you are seeking out God.

Like Clare said, He does answer our prayers, but not necessarily in the way that we would like. We may not always see that or be aware of it.

When seeking out God and answers to prayers, I think that we have to be patient, and I know that can be hard. 🙂

Have you ever gone to Adoration for an hour? If not, start going and ask the same thing. Lord, I want to know you more, show me. Stay an hour - once a week (or more). Make sure you thank Him for the many Blessings you’ve recieved. (ex. Lord I praise and thank you for…) There is a verse (can’t think where right now) but it says that “the Lord inhabits the praises of His people”. Visualize all our dear saints and His angels present (as they are always only we don’t always think about it) and our Lord in the center! Amazing!
I will of course pray for you as well. I have confidence He will be present to you but perhaps in ways unknown to me but only you:)

My love in Him,
mlz

May be your centering too much on yourself and not on Him. When you want someone’s attention the focus needs to be on that person. So instead of saying reveal yourself to me like He is not there say, “Lord I know you are here. I am here. I want to reveal myself to you. I know that you know all things but I do not know myself as I am known by you. Help me to discover what you see in me and wish to reveal through me. I wish to know what you know. Lead me to ask what you want from me. Teach me to lean on you so that I can learn to be faithful. I may lack in trust so give me a trust that will best serve me. I know you are here with me and I want to say thank you for this presence even though at times I have forgotten you. You never forget me, any of us, for your presence is always there with us. How can you as God be with so many people all at once while you can give personally to each of them, giving your full attention? I sometimes do not know what to say to you but I know you are a good listener. Perhaps I need to learn to listen as well. You can teach me this art to listen especially when you want to reveal something to me. Perhaps I was not paying attention when you tried to reveal yourself to me. Than help me to see and hear you when you do speak. They say you speak more fluently when we are praying to you. Than teach me to know how to pray so that I can learn to listen as well.”

Try to spend time with God so that you will grow with Him. Talk to Him in the same way as you do with your friend. Don’t hide your feelings or any truth from Him. He is eager to hear from us. We just need to give Him some of our time. Eventually as you will grow with the Lord, you will learn of His presence more intimately as He will teach you to discern what He wants from you or even better what He is saying to you. All of this will take time and practice. God is in no rush and neither should you be or any of us for that matter.

It would have been helpful if you had included all this explanation for why you felt this way.
It would have (slightly) amended my response. Praying for you, nonetheless.
There’s a big difference between a student who is questioning, and a student who is in intense pain from emotional abuse. I’m sorry for your pain.
God loves you. I hope that others learn that He loves them too.

Hello Nanotwerp,
After reading this whole chain, I think The Lord may have already granted you a huge miracle … The Truth.

You are a 13 year old Catholic with anti-Catholic, Protestant parents. That is a miracle in itself. The next 5+ years for you might be a little difficult. However, as you grow in Faith you could become an example to your parents. I’ve read about many parents who have converted on their deathbeds, etc due to them seeing the Truth through their children. But the key (and it’s not easy) is for them to see your prayer life and the wonders of the Church and not to argue dogma/doctrine with them. It’s not easy, but if they can see Christ through you, they will convert.

I will pray that The Lord continues to gives you strength and knowledge to fortify your Faith and to help lead others to the Church.

May The Lord Bless you and grant you peace.

If you want to get to know God, you must read the Scriptures, meditate on Jesus’ Passion and Death, pray/speak to Him with 100% confidence that He is listening to you and will care for you/answer you in the best way possible. Read a good book about our Lord. A good one is: *The Public Life of Jesus Christ *by Alban Goodier. I also suggest you have a strong devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I highly recommend that you read: Devotion to the Sacred Heart by Fr. John Croiset, S.J… Pray your rosary daily and fervently for Mary to bring you closer to Jesus and for God to reveal himself to you. Please recommend yourself to Mary. God bless you.
