What are some Catholics in the U.S. thinking? And the archdiocese has not commented???

Why is a Catholic health-care agency actively seeking involvement in a program that would involve abortion referrals?

Caritas Christi, the health-care arm of the Boston archdiocese, is assuring the public that Catholic hospitals would not perform abortions, nor even make abortion referrals. But the abortions would be done, the referrals would be made, under the terms of a government contract that Caritas Christi-- in partnership with another health-care agency-- hopes to win. [See today’s CWN News Brief.]

“He who takes the king’s shilling is the king’s man.”

A lot of Catholic institutions have gone secular or near-secular, and funding is perhaps the biggest reason for it. But there is also simply a secular mindset to some of them, independent of funding. Who, for example, would have expected the USCCB to contribute a million dollars to ACORN, before it became news only because USCCB paused in giving it due to a corruption scandal at ACORN?

I am very leery of most of the members of the USCCB. I wonder if they would have gone through with the contribution to ACORN if the scandal hadn’t broken first. I am really getting cynical about what some of our “flexible” Bishops say and do.
