Why would Catholic parents refuse to attend their daughter's wedding?

My granddaughter is a non-practicing Catholic who has been attending the Baptist church for the past two years. She is getting married in the Baptist church and her parents, who are practicing Catholics, have told her that they will not attend. Is there some reason that they cannot attend and participate?

Your granddaughter likely is still formally considered a Catholic, which means that she is required to observe Catholic marital law in order to be validly married. If she has not done so, her marriage will be presumptively invalid. If that is the case, her parents likely are reluctant to avoid giving their daughter the impression that they approve of both her presumptively-invalid marriage and her decision to stop practicing her Catholic faith.
