Can someone explain to me why, as they understand it, that God would permit Satan to wreak havoc on the world. I know that Jesus told Peter that, ‘Satan has asked to sift you like wheat…’ and there are other references throughout the Bible about being tested.

Also as Stephen Mahowald writes in his book, :she shall crush thy head…(Genesis 3:15) subtitled: The triumph of Mary, the Ark of the New Covenant, over secret societies, subversive movements and the One World Government; page 151,

"Only five years later, on May 13, 1884, Our Heavenly Father allowed another intervention into the affairs of humanity, but this time in an even more unusual way.

On that day, shortly after offering Mass, Pope Leo XIII collapsed to the floor outside his private chapel in the Vatican. Popular legend states that the Pope’s face turned very pale, leading to fears that he was near death. He remained that way for several minutes.

When returning to an awareness of his surroundings, the Pope is said to have uttered, “Oh what a horrible picture I was permitted to see!”

The Pontiff then went to his private office and penned the prayer that we know today as the The Prayer for the intercession of St. Michael the Archangel. Moreover, he acted quickly in announcing to the entire Church that this prayer was to be prayed after every low Mass said throughout the world.

The Pope later stated that during the vision he saw demons and heard the horrible voice of Satan boasting to God that he could destroy the Church and drag the world to hell if he were given sufficient time and power. According to the Pontiff, Satan asked God for between 75 and 100 years of enhanced worldly influence — and that request was granted."

What is the purpose for God allowing Satan permission to bring evil to the world and specifically to the Catholic Church?

Anybody?

If God has deemed us worthy of such a battle.

Bring it on.

In Christ.

Andre.

I think that the INFINITE God has more faith in us, as a species, than we think.

I think that the INFINITE God has so much faith in us, as a species, that he took on a bar bet with Satan. **

Here is a quote that addresses this issue somewhat:

The Devil, dearest daughter, is the instrument of My Justice to torment the souls who have miserably offended Me. And I have set him in this life to tempt and molest My creatures, not for My creatures to be conquered, but that they may conquer, proving their virtue, and receive from Me the glory of victory. And no one should fear any battle or temptation of the Devil that may come to him, because I have made My creatures strong, and have given them strength of will, fortified in the Blood of my Son, which will, neither Devil nor creature can move, because it is yours, given by Me. You therefore, with free arbitration, can hold it or leave it, according as you please. It is an arm, which, if you place it in the hands of the Devil, straightway becomes a knife, with which he strikes you and slays you. But if man do not give this knife of his will into the hands of the Devil, that is, if he do not consent to his temptations and molestations, he will never be injured by the guilt of sin in any temptation, but will even be fortified by it, when the eye of his intellect is opened to see My love which allowed him to be tempted, so as to arrive at virtue, by being proved. For one does not arrive at virtue except through knowledge of self, and knowledge of Me, which knowledge is more perfectly acquired in the time of temptation, because then man knows himself to be nothing, being unable to lift off himself the pains and vexations which he would flee; and he knows Me in his will, which is fortified by My goodness, so that it does not yield to these thoughts. And he has seen that My love permits these temptations, for the devil is weak, and by himself can do nothing, unless I allow him. And I let him tempt, through love, and not through hatred, that you may conquer, and not that you may be conquered, and that you may come to a perfect knowledge of yourself, and of Me, and that virtue may be proved, for it is not proved except by its contrary. You see, then, that he is my Minister to torture the damned in Hell, and in this life, to exercise and prove virtue in the soul. Not that it is the intention of the Devil to prove virtue in you (for he has not love), but rather to deprive you of it, and this he cannot do, if you do not wish it. Now you see, then, how great is the foolishness of men in making themselves feeble, when I have made them strong, and in putting themselves into the hands of the Devil.

Well the 100 years would have been over in 1994. Its already 2006 and we are here and still strong.
Either its a made up story about the Pope or satan is all hot air!!

So what I gather, as a consensus from your posts, is that God allows Satan this “privilege” to proove maybe two things: 1) are we worthy of Him (God) because we are tested, and 2) to proove to Satan that contrary to his boasting, he lacks power to effect any real change. This would serve to supply knowledge beneficial to us (show us our true selves) and it certainly supplys knowledge to Satan that he lacks the power he lusts for, even left to his own devices.

Thanks to all of you, for helping me to understand. 👍

Peace in Christ,
Brenda

Here’s another good question for you: Why would God allow some to come under direct demonic attack (being punched, kicked, slapped around by demons)?

Answer: For a higher purpose. Everything God allows is for a greater good. After all, “Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.”

Hey Seabird,

I really strugle with this issue, mainly because, why would God create an angel that he knew would fall and become pure evil, spreading suffering, pain and evil all throughout the world - It makes no sense!!

No theodices I have ever been taught really expalin it, some of them also seem a little too manufactured, as if it is not a real reason, but rather that it is just a silly attempt to defend God :o

The INFINITE God is going to give some CREATIONS some fractional share in HIS INFINITY. BUT, He needs to select “a few good men [and women]”. HOW can he select the most trustworthy CREATIONS to share in His INFINITY???

So, there is a selection process which will weed out those who are “morally weak”.

I’m reading a new book “One Bullet Away” by Nathaniel Fick about the selection of officer candidates in the Marine Corps. And it is a selection process. It is following instructions and then about learning how to apply some very advanced common sense. Really a development process that is very sophisticated; about selecting candidates who will get the Marines into battle, overcome the enemy, and get the Marines safely back to their families. The term “one bullet away” refers to the fact that one unlucky bullet could take away the leader and that any Marine could find himself (or herself) in command – and must therefore be prepared, in every way, to lead.

So… why would God permit Satan to do damage to us???

We don’t really know. But if I have an IQ of 100 and if Bill Gates as an IQ of 200 and if Einstein had an IQ of 300, then what is God’s IQ? God’s IQ is INFINITE… just like every other of the infinite number of aspects of Him. We can comprehend neither infinity nor INFINITY.

I take comfort in the fact that we see now as “only through a veil” but one day we shall see Him face to face. I know that when we get to heaven, we shall know Him more fully and what we accept now on Faith will be known in the fullness of time.

God is perfect love. If you knew ahead of time that a child you would conceive would grow up to turn against you and everything good, would you still go ahead and conceive that child? No, because you love imperfectly. God loves perfectly, even those creations that turn against Him. I think your problem may be that you see God more as a scientist than as a loving father, which is the proper way to relate to Him.
Also, when you don’t understand the reasons given to explain some theological matter, keep praying and looking asking God for help in understanding the great WHY’s? of the world. The more you chase Him, the more you will catch Him. 👍

This is a myth - it is a fiction

What is the purpose for God allowing Satan permission to bring evil to the world and specifically to the Catholic Church?

Anybody?

Some possibilities 🙂 -

  • for His own Glory
  • for the deeper damnation of the devil
  • for the showing-forth of His Righteousness against impenitent sinners
  • to show forth the infinite hatred in which He holds all sins
  • for the punishment of the sins of the elect
  • for their growth in grace
  • for their purification from all evil
  • to make them ever more like His own Beloved Son
  • there are thousands of reasons, for God is Infinitely Good, Righteous, Holy, Merciful, and Good. Therefore, the above happens.
A single sin is as great an evil as a million or a million million - the puzzle is why God “permits” (if one can use the word) so much as one. After one sin, a trillion are no problem whatever - there might as well be a trillion, since mere numerical increase in sins does not change the fact that even one sin is an obscenity. God is not a man, who can become more displeased than he was - He is God, so he does not become more of anything; He is changeless in Infinite Holiness & Infinite Love ##

WHAT is the part you feel is made up? I still don’t know what Della is referring to. If she or you could be more specific, I could show you how to verify those facts. So what is it that you feel is “made up?”
