i know the 1st original church started in his name was the Catholic church

why would he say this if people call priests Father everyday ?

Matthew 23:9
And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.

It’s not a prohibition against the use of the word “father”. It’s rather a reminder that we are not to equate anyone with God. The same passage forbids calling men teacher and master as well. No one seems to have a problem referring to anyone else as Mister or Doctor.

Jesus was telling His disciples to follow the First Commandment, namely, not to call anybody God or Lord or Heavenly Father. This actually shows that Jesus is God Himself, because if He was only a man claiming to be God, the statement He made would not make sense.

If using the word “father” is against the word of God then why did Paul use the word “father”?

Romans 4 16-18 "For this reason, it depends on faith, so that it may be a gift, and the promise may be guaranteed to all his descendants, not to those who only adhere to the law but to those who follow the faith of Abraham, who is the** father **of all of us, as it is written, “I have made you **father **of many nations.” He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into being what does not exist.
He believed, hoping against hope, that he would become “the father of many nations,” according to what was said, “Thus shall your descendants be.”

Acts 22:1 My brothers and** fathers**, listen to what I am about to say to you in my defense."

Matthew 23:9
And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.
You are misquoting the bible. It says, “And do not call anyone on earth YOUR father, for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.”

Why did you take out the word “Your”? It changes the meaning all together. A priest is not my father, he is my priest. Father is a title, but it is not an acknowledgement that he is MY father.

Keep in mind this, there are many people, some may be Baptist (or which I know one) whose family name is “Lord.” But the Bible says that there is only one Lord. So they should change their last names or else, by your reasoning!
