Why would the Nicene creed and Confiteor be omitted at my parish?

I don’t mean just during lent either. Every Sunday mass the apostles creed is said instead of the Nicene creed and the Confiteor is omitted for just the Kyrie… Is this against rubrics? As a former Anglican who has a Eastern catholic heritage I find this extremely bothersome and it always irks me the wrong way during mass.

The Confiteor is just one form of the Penitential rite, there are 2 others and it is up to the discretion of the priest as to which one is used.

Not sure about the Creed, we usually use the Nicene, but occasionally will use the Apostles Creed. This is something that is usually governed by the Bishop of the diocese, and he could have left it up to the individual priest.
The best person to ask these questions would be your own priest/pastor.

The Apostles’ Creed is allowed EVERY SUNDAY of the year, even in the United States.

During Lent, it’s even more appropriate because of the catechumens preparing for reception at Easter.

As for the Kyrie, there are multiple options for the Penitential Rite. Are you sure he did not introduce with another greeting, or the Kyrie was not part of a verse/response (e.g. “You came to heal the contrite of heart, Lord of have mercy. R. Lord have mercy”)?

OP, your pastor has several allowed choices regarding the Creed and the penitential rite. If you question his liturgical choices, you should ask him rather than; or at least, before, complaining about him on the internet.
