Why would there be a golden calf in a church?

I have been watching the DVD series Catholicism by Word on Fire Ministries. While watching Episode 7, “Word Made Flesh, True Bread of Heaven,” at 17:02 into the episode, I noticed a statue of what appears to be a golden calf. Why would a golden calf be in a church?
 
Not having seen the episode myself, I can only guess. One of the symbols of St. Luke is a bull (symbolizing the Temple sacrifices taking place at the beginning of his Gospel). That is one possible reason a church might have a statue in it that you took to be a “golden calf.”
