should nancy pelosi go to heaven?
Yes, she should. Everyone should go to Heaven because that is what God wants and He is the only judge, not you or I. We are all sinners and do not deserve Heaven but God offers it to us if we follow His ways.

Well i thought it did because “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”.
and we believe in jesus so we would at least go to purgatory right but now im confused becuase the catechism sats IV. HELL

1033 We cannot be united with God unless we freely choose to love him. But we cannot love God if we sin gravely against him, against our neighbor or against ourselves: "He who does not love remains in death. Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him."612 Our Lord warns us that we shall be separated from him if we fail to meet the serious needs of the poor and the little ones who are his brethren.613 To die in mortal sin without repenting and accepting God’s merciful love means remaining separated from him for ever by our own free choice. This state of definitive self-exclusion from communion with God and the blessed is called “hell.”

but if you die in a state of mortal sin but you didn’t get to confess your mortal sin to a preist or didnt get to go the pentance he set or only half repented and being struggling with the issue and then died i think god would give a freeway if he/she was truly sorry no ?
i duuno im confused

@buck - well no but they didn’t repent and wernt truly sorry for there sins so i dunno its up to god they probs and they rejected gods love but at the end of the days its about how much you lived out the will of god etc but you know what i mean - where they even Christian ?
but we all get salvation eventually as the bible and jesus said
Chuck - If you are really a “learning Roman Catholic” as you profess to be, you need to listen and learn what the Church teaches. This (our choice of Heaven or Hell for all eternity) is a fundamental teaching of the Church that is the foundation for all others.

Here is the Catechism teaching on Hell, my dear brother. Please give it a read and come back with specific questions on what you don’t understand fully (P.S. - if you go to the Catechism itself you can also look at the footnotes for more info).

**IV. HELL **
[1033](javascript:openWindow(‘cr/1033.htm’)😉 We cannot be united with God unless we freely choose to love him.
1034 Jesus often speaks of “Gehenna” of “the unquenchable fire” reserved for those who to the end of their lives refuse to believe and be converted, where both soul and body can be lost.614 Jesus solemnly proclaims that he "will send his angels, and they will gather . . . all evil doers, and throw them into the furnace of fire,"615 and that he will pronounce the condemnation: "Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire!"616
[1035](javascript:openWindow(‘cr/1035.htm’)😉 The teaching of the Church affirms the existence of hell and its eternity. Immediately after death the souls of those who die in a state of mortal sin descend into hell, where they suffer the punishments of hell, "eternal fire."617 The chief punishment of hell is eternal separation from God, in whom alone man can possess the life and happiness for which he was created and for which he longs.
[1036](javascript:openWindow(‘cr/1036.htm’)😉 The affirmations of Sacred Scripture and the teachings of the Church on the subject of hell are a call to the responsibility incumbent upon man to make use of his freedom in view of his eternal destiny. They are at the same time an urgent call to conversion: "Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few."618
Since we know neither the day nor the hour, we should follow the advice of the Lord and watch constantly so that, when the single course of our earthly life is completed, we may merit to enter with him into the marriage feast and be numbered among the blessed, and not, like the wicked and slothful servants, be ordered to depart into the eternal fire, into the outer darkness where "men will weep and gnash their teeth."619

[1037](javascript:openWindow(‘cr/1037.htm’)😉 God predestines no one to go to hell;620 for this, a willful turning away from God (a mortal sin) is necessary, and persistence in it until the end. In the Eucharistic liturgy and in the daily prayers of her faithful, the Church implores the mercy of God, who does not want “any to perish, but all to come to repentance”:621
Father, accept this offering
from your whole family.
Grant us your peace in this life,
save us from final damnation,
and count us among those you have chosen.622

but if you die in a state of mortal sin but you didn’t get to confess your mortal sin to a preist or didnt get to go the pentance he set or only half repented and being struggling with the issue and then died i think god would give a freeway if he/she was truly sorry no ?i duuno im confused
Being confused is not a problem because all of us were (and some still are) confused about what the Church teaches. Learning is part of our faith maturing.

God is not out to trick you, He is out to Love you with Divine Mercy. At the moment of death, God, who is more just a judge than any on Earth, will judge our lives, our souls and our hearts. He alone knows what sins you were truly sorry for and He knows your struggles, your successes, your failures, the state of your conscience, your knowledge and your will.

We need to live our lives each day as if it was our last: Try to avoid sin, especially mortal sin. Do good. Love God. Get to confession if needed. Attend Mass. Learn about God through His Church. Trust in His Divine Mercy and justice.

What happens if you are all wrong and there is no hell?
Then I will by God’s Divine Grace go to Heaven and I will not have wasted a second of my earthly life by living it as if there was a Hell. (I, however, know this teaching cannot be becasue God, through His Church, has affairmed that there is a Hell.)

May I ask a question my brother? What happens if you are all wrong and there is a hell?

What happens if you are all wrong and there is no hell?
According to the fundamentals of Buddhist teachings that I understand, the existence of life on Earth **is **of suffering. In a sense, Buddhism brands life on Earth as hellish, where only enlightenment is an escape.

As Catholics, we know that life is not entirely suffering, but that a state of eternal peace can be achieved both temporally and in a celestial existence, heaven, through faith (belief and realization of truth) and keeping to our Commandments and teachings (as a Buddhist, in general, would hold to the Noble Eightfold Path).

The key is that Christians believe that the soul has one shot on this Earth, and are not locked in a sequence of life and death and reincarnation (samsara), where enlightenment and nirvana are the only escape.

Since Christians do not believe in reincarnation, we practice our faith in the belief that there are no second chances at life on Earth in any form, except at the end of time, where our souls will return to our reconstituted bodies as glorified beings.

What happens if you are all wrong and there is no hell?
If we are all wrong it means there is no free will, we have to ultimately be with God whether we want to or not. We can hate completely hate God and not want to be with Him, but we’re stuck anyway.

It also means all those teaching from Jesus about how to live really mean nothing. So what if we don’t live that way on earth? We’ve got heaven to live it in. So I’m not really sure why He bothered with His teachings.

Well what if we’re still struggling with sin or one or the mortal sins and slowly getting out of the sin if it becomes a habit and then we die ? Would we go to hell becuase we still are repenting etc 1033 We cannot be united with God unless we freely choose to love him. Struggling with an issue doesn’t mean you’re not sorry.

God knows our hearts.

i duuno im confused
  • You’re opening scripture Jn 3:16… Whoever “believes in Him” … that passage requires alot.
  • if one for example, is walking around in mortal sin and doesn’t make a beeline to the confessional to get rid of the sin as soon as possible, vs another person who doesn’t hesitate to confesses sacramentally their mortal sin, whose fault is it who procrastinates and dies? The immediate remedy for ridding oneself of mortal sin is there at every parish for every Catholic. Mañana mentality, is dangerous. It can be perceived as indifference to the consequences for grave sin,…true?

I am still confused and don’t get it but what I am trying to say is why are we going to hell if we have mortal sins on our soul if we havnt had a chance to confess /repent to or are sorry and just starting to stop the sin and overcome it ?
What if we accept gods love and go his way away from sin and still have mortal sin on our soul and die ?
R we going to pergeroty or heven or not ?

What happens if you are all wrong and there is no hell?
The question isn’t about what I think or anyone else here thinks. We don’t decide this issue, hell is not our creation.

The Son of God, had more to say about Hell than about Heaven.

Okay then u r sorry but what I am trying to say is why are we going to hell if we have mortal sins on our soul if we havnt had a chance to confess /repent to or are sorry and just starting to stop the sin and overcome it ?
Accept responsiblity, repent of the loss, confess the mortal sins to your priest, get Jesus’ absolution, convert heart mind and soul. Find ways to fill the void that otherwise leads to sin, avoid temptations that draw sin back, receive the Eucharist and when a fall happens, get right back up and get Jesus’ absolution.

Continual process throughout life. Keeps our connection to Jesus strong.

No one knows this answer. Only God knows. It is possible we could go to hell if we are in mortal sin.

Anathema, your post is correct.
If one dies in UNREPENTED mortal sin, one goes to hell , according to church teaching.

What i find frustrating is that there seems to be no clear answer on what constitutes mortal sin.
especially the catholic answers forums.
Greetings Maplebug55,

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church,
#1857 For a sin to be mortal, three conditions must together be met: “Mortal sin is sin whose object is grave matter and which is also committed with full knowledge and deliberate consent.”
#1858 Grave matter is specified by the Ten Commandments, corresponding to the answer of Jesus to the rich young man: “Do not kill, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and your mother.” The gravity of sins is more or less great: murder is graver than theft. One must also take into account who is wronged: violence against parents is in itself graver than violence against a stranger.
#1859 Mortal sin requires full knowledge and complete consent. It presupposes knowledge of the sinful character of the act, of its opposition to God’s law. It also implies a consent sufficiently deliberate to be a personal choice. Feigned ignorance and hardness of heart do not diminish, but rather increase, the voluntary character of a sin.
These are the criteria given by the CCC. What needs to happen to determine if something is mortally sinful is to take it to Confession be 100% transparent and honest with the Confessor. Who is anyone on CAF to judge whether a sin is mortal or not, we cannot at all know all the possible mitigating factors that may be present that would lessen a mortal sin to a venial sin.

When in doubt take it to the Confessional. Have frequent recourse to Confession.

God Bless.

What happens if you are all wrong and there is no hell?
Greetings ProtectorRoss,

I am confident that Hell is very real just as you are a real person. IT is a light of faith and the grace of God that I am able to believe in such a thing much less the rest of the dogmas of the Catholic Church.

I am not worried about being wrong, how can one be wrong when one believes in the Truth?

God Bless.

No one knows this answer. Only God knows. It is possible we could go to hell if we are in mortal sin.
Greetings Link0126,

Not only is it POSSIBLE that we could go to hell if we are in a state of unrepentant mortal sin, but that is GOING to be the reality.

No way to soften this truth.

God Bless.

Yes, I get that. But his question was more complex than that. If I am correct, I believe he has not fully entered into the Church yet and may not have recourse at the moment to confession. If this is the case, that may complicate matters. That is how I understood his question hence why my answer was phrased in that manner.
