Considering Jesus’s Jewish background and customs, why would’nt Jesus pick the Jewish faith to be the truth faith to follow. Can you give me resources that I can look up. Why is it that the Catholic Church can claim to be the true church.

Thank You!

Jerry

Dear Jerry,

As a matter of fact, He did follow the Jewish faith. As a man He was born into Judaism. As the Messiah and Son of God, He fulfilled it. In the book of Isaiah ( Is 7:14) we read: “Listen I house of David! Therefore the Lord himself will give you this sign: the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and you shall name him Emmanuel.” He is the completion of all that Judaism stands for. When He told Peter: “You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church.” He wasn’t denying the truths of Judaism; He was establishing the effects of those truths as their completion here on earth.

Rosalind Moss, one of our apologists who is a convert from Judaism, says that one cannot be more Jewish than to be Catholic. The Catholic Church can claim to be the true Church because it was founded by Jesus Christ, Himself. As He is the fulfillment of Judaism, so His Church is the current expression of that fulfillment.
