Hi, I’m cradle catholic, coming back…

I just started reading reading the bible from the beginning…and in Genesis, so far… why does God sometimes refer to Himself as “We” or “Us”…
Like…there’s more than one of Him…or something I’m not understanding…

Thanks!

Three Persons in ONE.

would make sense for just The Father and Holy Spirit though too…

Thanks 🙂

I feel dumb lol…

Yep…the Son and the Holy Spirit have always existed with the Father, before that was really revealed to us here on earth. I like to think of those “we” times in the Old Testament as a cool little foreshadowing of the New Testament.

The Son was always there, he was just not incarnate yet.

Jesus existed before He was born of Mary, He is part of the Trinity which has always existed.

Eternally begotten of the Father, forever, which is always.

God Bless

Edit:
Too late, someone else answered it.
(see, isn’t being Catholic cool? It is all very interesting)

Wait until you get to Wisdom and Sirach, there’s all sorts of cool references to the Holy Spirit, and a few of the Son. I like to think that the prophets and some of the other writers of the OT understood more than your standard Jew, but God didn’t want them to reveal the whole thing all at once. But it’s clear that by the time of Wisdom and Sirach, which were about 200-150 BC, the Jews understood enough about God that they were ready for Jesus. In fact, those two books were so useful to early Christians in their evangelizing that the Jews removed them from their scripture.
