We are a little confused in what a soul is and heart is it seems. The definition of a soul is as follows : body+spirit=soul were the body is the physical, spirit is the essence or mind(you are calling the heart) and the soul is the living soul of the combination of both. You are admitting there is a spirit when you refer to the heart to have answers and feels. Brain chemistry cannot possess these feelings answers and decisions. The body and spirit work together here on this world to interact with it. Body or brain alone is like you said, only brain chemistry and firing nerve nets.

I think he was referring to the “soul” as a thing that lives on after death. And I made the heart reference originally, as a metaphor for emotion. I don’t think either one of us was suggesting it’s something physically seperate from the brain.

My son graduated boot camp in the air force last August. On base they had Catholic,Protestant,Islam,Jewish,Hindu, and Wicca places of worship. I was shocked. Of course these curious kids go into these Wicca things. It made me mad. My son never did,I was proud .
Just because some curious kids went into a Wiccan place of worship to look around, doesn’t mean they’re converting. They just want to know more about the people around them, which is always a good idea.

And just for the sake of accuracy, not all religions believe in a good and a bad. For examples, Nihilism and Zen Buddhism.
Buddhists usually speak of ‘skillful’ and ‘unskillful’, which, in practical terms, works out very similarly to that of ‘good’ and ‘bad’. For instance, sensual indulgence would be ‘unskillful’ behavior.

I understand what you are saying,my point is that people confuse what the meaning of soul is. Many people use soul as soul=spirit, which is false.
