How do you react when your pregnant wife throws things in anger and in the end says she does not need a husband? I remained silent the entire time and have not spoken to her since.

Ask her what’s wrong. It’s not because of you, she married you so she loves you. It’s something else, I bet. Talk to her, comfort her, tell her you love her no matter what. She’s going through pregnancy and pregnancy is a tough time for a woman. Above all else, pray and make sacrifices for her.

Speaking as a pregnant woman, that may have been the best thing you could have done at the moment. Now that the moment has passed, though, you guys should be thinking about how to reconcile. I would simply suggest hugging her and telling her you love her and are happy to be her husband. You know if this will help or not, so I’ll leave you to it.

As a woman who has been pregnant more than once- It’s the hormones talking and throwing, not anything you actually said or did. Treat her well at this time and expect eruptions. Never even hint that she is anything other than lovable.

SHE’S PREGNANT MAN. you need to make allowances. my wife went nutzo a million times at me when she was pregnant with our kids.

It’s your job to be like telflon. Just let is slide off. She’ll say sorry eventually. Until then…Take it like a man.

Well, as a woman who has been pregnant, those hormones can do wacky things! Probably no matter what you do, it will upset her further. Even now, by you not saying anything she may take that to mean you don’t love her.**

I remained silent the entire time and have not spoken to her since.

Hmmmm, remaining silent might have been a good choice. But how long have you not been speaking to her, when did this happen?
**If this is out of character for her, there are no major underlying marital problems, and this is due to the wacky hormones, she needs your love and acceptance. Reassure her, and then reassure her some more. Love her. **

Try praying a Rosary together until her fits pass. God bless you and Mary keep you.

Peace,

Gail

Thanks for the advice. It so happened I had to go home sick yesterday and she thinks I am going to lose my job because of it. That’s why we have sick time! Anyhoot, I understand it is due to pregnancy but those word of “I don’t need you” runs deep so I reflected and thought how often we can sometimes reject Christ in the same manner. Anyway, just trying to bridge the gap of faith and everyday live. Mi vida loca.

Thank you so much for that. I guess silence was the best way to handle this one. I would like to hug her but at this stage she pushes me away.

At least everything she threw didn’t hit me but the words definately hit hard.

LoL! Thank you for this comment. 🙂

It happened last night, I slept on the couch, went to work early and didn’t even call her. I am planning on staying late tonight but maybe that may not be a good idea at this point. Avoiding her could be the worst thing I think.

**Avoiding her IS the worst thing. If I could implant a microchip in your brain this instant that would make sure you don’t take anything she does while pregnant personally I would, lol.

Honestly, you need to see this from her perspective. The fear of you losing your job while she is pregnant must have been very scary and stressful for her. Those hormones can severely alter a person, seriously.

If you want some advice, stop and buy her some flowers on the way home and APOLOGIZE. You were completely wrong to sleep on the couch and avoid her because she lost control of her emotions. That was a terrible thing to do. Resolve to spend the rest of her pregnancy treating her like a queen and letting the hormonal wackies just roll off your back. If you don’t learn to do that now, life with a newborn and a sleep deprived hormonal wife is going to drive you over the edge. She needs you to be her rock right now.

Just let it go. She didn’t mean to hurt you. Our emotions get the best of us when we are pregnant and sometimes something as logical as sick time, doesn’t make any sense to us. We worry more then ever thought possible. Just don’t laugh at her when she gets like this, she may kill you and I think it’s called justifiable homicide 😃
Is this your first baby? If so, then it’s new to both of you. My advice is just be kind. Help her more, ask how she is doing ( you might have to duck if she is having a bad day and has anything in her hands 😉 ) Just love her!

I was prego twice…and yes, it could be the hormones. I don’t think all behaviors should be excused by saying…‘well, it’s her hormones.’ What brought this reaction on? She just out of the blue, threw something, and said…she doesn’t want a husband? That seems odd, even if we’re talking hormones. Did anything lead up to that?

I am not excusing her behavior…yes, it could be hormones, but she owes you an apology. Now, once she gives you one, if you hold a grudge, then it’s you who has more of the problem, not her.

So…would you mind sharing the backdrop of what happened, that spurred her reaction? Again, not excusing it…but, to come out of the blue like that with nothing leading up to it, sounds really odd…even for hormonal reasons.:o

I would call her today, if you normally make contact during the day, and just have a normal conversation, as if nothing happened.

Give her a chance to apologize before you vent.

Once, when we were in a labor room at the hospital, we heard the classic exchange between man and wife:

Husband: “Oh, honey, this contraction is a big one”

Wife: **"I KNOW IT’S A BIG ONE. I AM FEELING IT. YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT A BIG ONE IS.

AND, YOU ARE NEVER TOUCHING ME AGAIN! NO MORE SEX. NOTHING. HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?.."**

Husband: “Uhm”

Wife: “Wow, that was a big one. Have I told you how much I love you? We’re going to be parents!”

Husband: “Uhm?”

what led up to this??? Throwing things is not cool. I understand being pregnant and all…but, she needs to not throw things. A woman doesn’t become pregnant and she suddenly turns into an uncontrollable person…if she is uncontrollable more often than not, she needs to see her doctor, maybe there is something natural they can give her to balance things out.

Has she apologized? I haven’t read that thus far, but wasn’t sure if maybe she had. She needs to. Hormones or not…she needs to apologize. If a man were to be having a melt down of some sort, and threw things at his wife, we would not say…‘well, he was having a melt down, let it go.’

OP–You need to be very patient during this time with your wife. But, I definitely think she needs to apologize. Being patients doesn’t mean being mistreated for the next however many months until the baby is due, with no apologies or acknowledgment of her behavior. :o

Sorry guys, we women can be very confusing at times! 😊

Aahhh, the feminine mystique. I’m sure she loves and needs you, tell her you know that she is uncomfortable. Ask her if she would like to get out for a while, maybe dinner, (no wine!) or a movie or whatever. Now is the time to treat her like you were about 2 weeks from proposing. Remember that she is a delicate flower that is beyond price.

As I always tell friends when they get married: No man whoever married a good woman ever deserved her and as long as he remembers that he’ll be okay.
