Ah, but you see, they’re putting both on your “government credit card”, so you’re just paying off one card with another and buying more stuff on credit. And the interest on the government card is compound interest; worse than VISA. Oh well, I’m swimming against the tide and I know it.🤷
I think its a waste of money. i dont need the govt gving me a chack-Id rather they just took less from me ion the first olace.

I thought it was the big bad Republicans who were in corporate America’s pocket?
That still seems to be the case. First, notice these from the same article:
“I strongly support Chairman Baucus’ efforts to garner bipartisan support to improve the House agreement, and I intend to take legislation to the floor as quickly as possible to strengthen the economy,” said Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

Republicans, though, were among those calling for additions to the plan.
“Many of these additions have bipartisan support, and I hope that the president will recognize that the White House needs to negotiate with the Senate as well as the House,” said Sen. Susan M. Collins, R-Maine, who backs both the rebates for seniors and the unemployment extension.

Still, pressure from the elderly and labor unions — both politically potent forces — spurred senators from both parties to call for the extras.
Notice that the article does not indicate the backstory on the particular provision you cited. Raw Story and The Capitol Report both indicate that it was a concession to GOP members for bipartisan support. Remember, the GOP is using the filibuster at a historic rate, so 60 votes is the defacto standard to pass any legislation.

And, if you want GOP votes, you have to give something to big business or the wealthy.
