Will Blessed John Paul II, Pope of Rome, make it into any Eastern Calendar?

Would be awesome if he does so.
It’s highly likely… equally as likely as his being declared a saint. Almost every new beatification is accompanied with addition to the calendars of all churches in union; the class of celebration, however, will vary far more.

We had his image on the Tetrapod this morning 👍

Although I didn’t hear at the closing prayers if he was mentioned with the saints of today because I was in the Sacristy cutting up the Artos

I sure hope so!

Constantine, you wouldn’t be one of Fr. Miron’s parishioners in Barberton, would you? I’m just guessing since he posted a picture of their icon of Blessed John Paul the Great on Facebook.

No. We do not have an icon of Blessed John Paul II yet. What we had was his photo that Catholic parishes usually have on their walls.

Bless John Paul II was only the third pope to have ever been in Ukraine 🙂

He was preceded there by St Clement and St Martin.

Also, his mother was an ethnic Ukrainian Greek-Catholic whose family still live in Ternopil in Ukraine.

I’m all for declaring him as the “Ukrainian Pope”

And yet he was still too busy playing politics with the ROC to recognize the patriarchal status of the UGCC.

I used to believe this very strongly. I was even angry with the Pope when he was alive over this matter.

And I was wrong to be angry with him. The UGCC is caught between the Rock and a hard place on this. And Bl. John Paul did say he was willing to recognize the UGCC patriarchate - but the Vatican ost-policy makers were against that. He came closer than any pope in this regard.

Perhaps it is the destiny of the UGCC to be reunited with its Mother Orthodox Church in Kiev. If that is ultimately Rome’s policy in not recognizing a UGCC patriarchate, then I am an obedient Catholic in this regard as well! 😉
