dont worry, this question isnt as stupid as it seems lol. so we all know that demons/ angels are immaterial beings, however they can still move and manipulate matter in some ways. so there must be a way they do it, it would just be up to us to figure out how. for example, ive heard stories how they can throw an object accross the room, we know that they do this by somehow blocking the gravitational pull on the object and then using the air to propell the object accross the room. i imagine its the same when they attack people. people have reported these attacks as “invisible fists” or “scourges”, my speculation is that they do this by manipulating the atoms of the air to form a more dense cluster of air, then they use that to somehow strike at the individual. (even though this is purely my speculation, it seems logical, doesnt it?) according to aquinas, even angels cannot perform miracles, this means that even they are subject to the laws and order of nature. so if this is true, then that if we humans would know how these spirits manipulate our physical world, then would we be able to invent technologies which could stop them?

No. The only thing that can defeat them is Jesus Christ. Anything that is human no matter how far technology advances they are outside of it.

You have to realize that the demons and angels are outside of our dimension and they are spirit. And why would we have to invent technologies to stop them, we we have the greatest tool that can be provided for.

It’s called the Ritual of Exorcism.

Why would there be a need to build such technologies, as if the physical can affect the non-physical  , when you have a local diocesan exorcist on call and fully able to handle such things? 🤷

Has it been proven that demonic possession is real? Are there really documented cases of the paranormal? I have been looking but haven’t found any.

Of course science will! Think of the huge drop in exorcisms after the DSM I was first released.

Greetings Intheclouds,

John Zaffis once said along these lines that For those who believe we have an over abundance of existence of demonic activity. For those who do not believe, nothing will ever be enough.

I agree with him, in addition my experiences of working with the exorcists that I am priveledged and blessed to work with and my studies in demonology concur.

God Bless.

@Birdpreacher

It is not the fact that the numbers decreased, it is the fact that disbelief in a Dogma that is De Fide, meaning it must be believed as a Divinely Revealed Truth of God which is taught and upheld by the Catholic Church dropped and hence the number exorcisms have dropped.

However there is a rise in exorcisms and belief once again in this De Fide doctrine. If one does not believe that demons exist, then they do not fully believe in all that the Catholic Church teaches.

I believe demons exist, however I believe early man did not fully understand mental illness to the degree we do now.

Greetings Birdpreacher,

I can agree with the statement from your last post.

However, in regards to your first post where you stated that after the DSM I was published exorcisms dropped in number.

Since it is the practice of the Catholic Church to keep exorcisms private then how can your statement be substantiated?

God Bless.

well wouldnt life be much more stress free if you knew that you didnt have to rely on God to save you from demons? thats like saying, why try to fight off a rabid dog when you can just get rabbis shots afterwards… or why take a self defence course when you can just go to the police after the robber takes your wallet.

With understanding of mental illnesses came an explanation for what was once thought to be supernatural. Demonic possession does happen, but there were instances were unrecognized symptoms of mental illness were chalked up to demonic possession.

Greetings Someperson555,

[The quote feature is not working on this computer.]

This is in response to your statement

“Wouldn’t life be more stress free if you did not have to rely on God to save you from demons…?”

Wow, I have to respond to this comment. Why does man think he has to do everything for himself. Why does man find it hard to believe in God and trust him for EVERYTHING? It may be less stress free, but I can guarantee the horrible thing of which you suggest is that man should have faith in science instead of God. If one follows what your first statement seems to be saying, this the logical conclusion is why shoud we trust in God for anything, because science can make our life stress free? This sounds like an easy way to opt out of carrying one’s Cross and to walk humbly before one’s God.

God Bless.

I agree with this, however we should not excluse mental illness and demonic possession as those are not two mutually exclusive things.

you are very lucky, I hope you will never have the misfortune of encountering a demon yourself. me peronally, i have never even been physically attacked, in fact to a skeptic my symptoms would be classified as a mixture of severe mental illnesses, but i know what i feel, and i could not even describe to you some of the emotions/ feelings i have felt in the past. it goes beyond mere depression, ocd, depersonalization, etc. you dont believe it untill you experience it. i didnt believe demonic obsession /opression/ subjugation before either. i only believed in posession and thought that even that was extremely rare, but unfortunately my beliefs were wrong.

someperson:

First I pray for you and your symptoms, I hope that God alleviate you from your sufferings. That being said, I do believe that demonic possession occurs in the world today, however I believe that many instances of mental illness in the past were chalked up to demonic possession.

thank you,
thats true too, which is why psychiatry is important,. since it helps us discern what is mental illness, and what is demonic.

"will human technology ever be able to defend against demonic power?"

No.

In fact, such a delusion (and it is a delusion) would be a cause for temptation. Look everywhere in history where spiritism, demonism or paganism was or is practiced. You will notice that its mythology involves “good” and bad demons. The religion inculcates the idea that you can petition certain demons to counter the unwanted influence of others. The point is this: it’s a system. You are encouraged in that system to make use of one form of magic or another (black or white), but you are always using forbidden magic or incantations that are abominable to God. A devil harasses you and so you offer your service or enter into communion with another devil to acquire “protection” from the unwanted influence. The holy angels, of course, have nothing to do with this. They do not desire your service or worship: they desire for you to worship the Triune God. It’s akin to being on the border of two warring mobs or gangs: both are evil and each side is demanding protection money from you and threatening you that if you give protection money to the other side then you will punished. It’s a racket.

Now the devils would love nothing more then for modern man to delude himself with pride and imagine that he can use his technology to either influence or combat the devils. They would even likely encourage such thinking and play along, so to speak, to encourage it, as it nonetheless results in the abandonment of the True God and His worship and ends with the soul hopelessly trapped and addicted into a false spiritual system that is used to manipulate and control him.

Human technology has no spiritual value whatsoever. My laptop does and cannot make me, in and of itself, more holy. What is material is for what purpose I use the machine. A ouija board is not a sophisticated machine, but it becomes a spiritual influence because of the application of the human will to a spiritual end. Since the thing itself is forbidden even by natural reason, its use is always at least sinful. There is nothing special about a ouija board that it should have a reputation for spiritual experiences. A gadget, sophisticated or not, is of no use in spiritual warfare.

well first of all, i dont think that wanting to invent certain technoplogies which would enable humans to defend themselves against demons is “prideful”, after all, we have a right to defend our bodies and minds against evil. for example if you were to defend yourself against a thief, that would not be prideful. we have no obligation to tolerate demonic harrasement anymore than we have an obligation to tolerate harrasement from another man.
but do we know for sure that material things can not help us in anyway? because my point is this:
thomas aquinas says that the way demons (and other spirits) move matter is by indirect means, this means that even the demons have a modus operandi of moving physical matter. so doesnt this mean that if we would know how they do it, we could invent things to hinder them? for example, one thing i was pondering, would demons be able to move matter in a vacuum? if we would know the limitations on their powers, it would be helpful.

Demonic power is not real. There is no such thing as possession or poltergeists or any of that stuff. There is not one shred of documented scientific evidence of any of that.

dude… im going to tell you what i told birdpreacher, it is very real wether you choose to believe it or not. as i said just be thankful that you have not met a demon yet. i have had the misfortune of experiencing demonic obsession. as i said, i never got physically attacked (by the grace of God) but i have experienced emotions/ feelings which were just not human. you wouldnt believe it unless it happened to you. it really is indescribable. but the main thing that sets demonic obsession apart from regular mental illness is that you know that its an evil spirit, you feel it’s presence.
and there is documented scientific evidence for this, many other people have come forward with the same symptoms who have never met eachother. therefore isolated incidents. i used to think like you too, but now i know i was wrong. there are countless cases where psychiatrists give the patient medication but it doesnt help (in most cases makes them worse) on the OCD forums every other post is about “well my meds werent working so my doc decided to up the dosage, etc”. so theres no concrete proof that medications work either.
