Will I be forgiven?

I grew up catholic and left the church during my teen years. I went on to renounce my faith and question everything written in the bible. I sinned regularly knowing fully that everything I was doing was wrong. A couple of years ago I had a crisis of conscience that rekindled my faith in God and recently I have felt a strong desire to once again be a part of the church. The only Catholic church in my area is hard for me to get to as I do not drive, and it is quite a distance away. I fear that I may have strayed to far to return, and being unable to attend mass I am unsure how to do so. Are there sins that cannot be forgiven?

No, you have not strayed too far.

Since there is a Catholic Church–even a distance away–get in touch with the priest. Explain that you do not drive, that you would like him to hear your confession, and to come to church if another parishioner will take you. Most churches (mine is one) will make arrangements for people who have difficulties with transportation, gladly. . . so do not delay! The sooner you talk to the priest the sooner you can schedule your confession and enter with joy into the full practice of the faith. God is calling you home–He will help you.

You have the opportunity to confess your sins to God through the sacrament of confession. Go for it.

There is always opportunity to come back to the Church. Remember the parable of the Prodigal Son, or the Lost Sheep. There was much rejoicing!

Give the priest a call and make a time to go in to confession with him and also mention your transportation issues. I am sure there would be someone from your area willing to pick you up on the way to mass 🙂

The only unpardonable sin is the sin of Blasphemy. All other sins are FORTGIVEABLE WITH CONFESSION. and true repentance.

To clarify the above, the “unpardonable sin” is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Matt. 12:31, Mark 3:28-29, Luke 12:10. Garden variety blasphemy (so to speak) is forgiveable, but the very nature of blaspheming the Holy Spirit is akin to thumbing one’s nose at the very possibility of forgiveness itself. This is how the Catechism puts it (in Section 1864)

“‘Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.’ [Matt. 12:31] There are no limits to the mercy of God, but anyone who deliberately refuses to accept his mercy by repenting, rejects the forgiveness of his sins and the salvation offered by the Holy Spirit. Such hardness of heart can lead to final impenitence and eternal loss.”
 
All sins can be forgiven. And you can never “stray to far” to come back.

I don’t know all the particulars of your situation, but call the church and explain your situation. You are apparently not so far removed from civilization that you do not have internet access, but if you cannot make it to the church to make a Confession, I am certain a priest would come to you.

Similarly, perhaps you could make arrangements with the church for someone to drive you to Mass. And if that were not possible, perhaps someone could come to you with the Eucharist, as is done with many of the homebound.

Never give up hope. If you are sincere in your desire for repentance and forgiveness, you will be okay.

Thank you for the clarafication. That was what I meant by the sin of Blasphemy is the refusal to ask for Gods forgiveness.

Jesus Christ has already paid the full penalty for your sins. Confess your sinfulness to God, repent of your sinful ways and ask his forgiveness. He will give you eternal life! With your new salvation comes the grace to resist sin and a very strong desire toward obedience and holy living which includes loving God, loving your neighbor and doing the will of God through your good works. You also will experience incredible complete peace that comes with putting your complete trust in Christ:

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.” (Romans 5:1-2)

Read your New Testament. Start with the book of 1st John. It’s only five chapters and you can read it in about 20 to 30 minutes. It can tell you how to know if you belong to Him and are saved.

“God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life… I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.” (1 John 5:11-13)

No, the only unforgiven sin is adamant unrepentent deliberate rebellious refusal to ask forgiveness. Call the closest parish ask to speak to the priest about a pastoral matter (that is all the secretary needs to know) explain your dilemma briefly as you have stated it here, ask for help with transportation. You can do this. Welcome home.
 
Yes of course you will be forgivin. God has been waiting a long time for you to say those words and he is exited that you want to follow him again.

Thank you all for the encouragement. I can’t help but wonder why I ever strayed from the church. It is clear that God works through all who follow him.
 
No sin whatsoever can’t be forgiven with the exception of the sin of final impenitence, which you do not suffer from my friend.
