I was just wondering, since she is being canonized on September 4th, will her feast day appear on the calendar? It would surprise me if she isn’t, as St. John Paul II is in it now. I know that some countries have different calendars with different saints who may be more important to a region are in calendars, for example Juniperro Serra is in the calendar in the United States, and in Ireland St. Patrick is a Solemnity, I believe Mother Teresa is already in some local country calendars like Calcutta. But does anyone think Pope Francis will put Mother Teresa in the General Roman Calendar?

I’d say she could probably be an obligatory memorial in India and Albania, optional memorial everywhere else.

I want saints added sparingly to the Calendar.

But before she gets canonized, anything at all is just speculation. But she’s probably fairly significant to the world that it may justify her addition to the General Calendar as an optional memorial.

I rather like all the Saint memorials. As a DRE I find them a great inspiration to the students in religious ed.

The more saints the better, full-stop.

If there are too many names, just alternate them in successive years.

The old Celtic chruch has hundreds of saints no longer mentioned

Agree. If every day has a memorial the feriae disappear which tends to obscure the liturgical season.

No.

This was the problem with the old calendar by 1962 such that we had lost the cycle and rhythms of the liturgical year. Alternating saints over years will only make that worse.

For those of us who pray the Office, this would be an intolerable situation.

I surely hope so. She was an important figure not just to India, but to the world. Her life was a standout example of how to find God in others, and her witness to God in that way should be remembered by all. That being said, I personally believe the more saints, the merrier. However, that’s not for me to decide. 😛

I believe that she will be in the Calender’s, pray card,s and Medals ,they are probable being made already, for the day she is going to become a Saint.

There are over 10 000 recognized saints. Only a small minority have obligatory universal memorials. Of course, on a feria day any one of several optional memorials may be observed or the votive of a saint who would otherwise fall on a “taken” day (universal memorial, feast or sunday).
