Will my husband go to hell because he is a mason?

You bring up a few things here. So, let’s sort them out. 🙂 Firstly, your feelings. You are afraid for your husband and you seem to resent the idea that he may go to heaven in spite of the thing you think must keep him out. Your feelings are natural, but frankly not what is most important here. What is important is where he is, and why. You will never convince him by forcing him/guilting him into accepting Church teaching. He has to see it for himself. You must let go of your determination to make him do what you want him to do.

Secondly, saying that God will judge your husband is not at all the same thing as giving him a “free pass”. God judges fairly and justly. He judges according to what a person knows and how he responds to that knowledge. This knowledge must be complete and rejected with full knowledge. There’s such a thing as invincible ignorance that makes him less culpable. He wasn’t brought up a Catholic, he doesn’t understand why he needs to be a Catholic, nor why the Church is so opposed to freemasonry. You can help him by showing him what the Church teaches, but he must see that it is right and true for himself–you cannot make him do that.

Finally, your making an issue of this is only going to make him more and more resistant. It’s not your job to convince him–that’s the Holy Spirit’s job. We always become frustrated when we try to do what God alone can do. So, don’t do it. 🙂 Pray for him and be a good example to him. He doesn’t think his ring is offensive, indeed, he probably thinks you are the insensitive one for insisting he not wear it. Unless and until he sees for himself that freemasonry is contrary to Christianity, he will not remove it to please anyone else, especially if he feels he is being forced to do so (a violation of his free will) or made to feel guilty (a violation of his honor/integrity). Stop pressuring him. Just love him as he is and leave the convicting of his heart to God. Pray and be ready to answer his questions. That is the way to help him, which is what you want, not just to make him do what you want him to do. Yes?
Thank you, Della.
You have again said a whole lot that makes very good sense.👍👍

As a married couple we are to lead each other to Heaven. It is all well and good to speak of love and acceptance and leave it to God, but isn’t it dangerous to dabble in things that the Church has decided are wrong? When do we stop overlooking everything and being politically correct? This guy isn’t my neighbor, friend, or distant cousin! He is my husband and I believe the marriage should be first after God. However, this Masonic thing has picked up steam against my will over the past few years. As the Masonic things are secret, it is hard to know what all the symbolism means, as for the ring for an example. To me it is insulting that he would wear the ring when he attends Mass with me each Sunday, after I have asked him not to. It is a little more than hurtful when he has never desired to wear a wedding ring in honor of our marriage! Yes, only God knows where each soul goes and how they will arrive there, but stubborness does not bode well in my opinion for arrival in Heaven. Guess you all are thinking, poor guy stuck with the likes of me, huh? I am thinking that all this overlooking of behaviours in our society is modernism working to take us from the true path the Church would have us on. Everything just becomes acceptable, end of discussion. As a protestant, my husband has even less understanding of these things. Maybe he gets a free out because of this? I don’t know… he is living in a very strong Catholic family. I do realize of course that his un Catholicness is my own consequence for marrying someone who is not Catholic. However, I was not Catholic either when we started out. As a former protestant, my own convictions have grown much since then. I guess he just doesn’t care to join me. So are we all safe then, just because we’re nice people with good intentions? I have been carried away with this post! Please forgive me.
I COMPLETELY agree with you!👍

My husband is not a freemason but he is non-religious. I don’t think I have ever met a person so uninterested in God…its mind-boggling. He thinks my religion is a “hobby” and tries to push me toward other ones…like gardening and such.🤷

At any rate, I posted a thread not too long ago about my husband and I got mixed results. Some said let him be, while others said to step in. I feel we, as wives, need not sit by and just hope they will change. I feel your frustration…

What is frustrating is trying to get people to do/believe what we want them to do/believe. We can’t make anyone into a believer, only God can. So, what do we do? We love them, pray for them (the best thing we can do), we provide the information they need without being pushy, and we be there for them when they have questions. No woman has ever managed to change her husband by forcing or guilting him into anything. If we want a man to go a certain direction, we have to gently guide him there, but even then he has a mind of his own and his own soul. Whether or not he comes to believe is, ultimately, between him and God.

Do you think he is Hell-bound?
Can’t speak for his soul, but …

“I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands, and the Republic is destroyed.”
Abraham Lincoln

“The First World War must be brought about in order to permit the Illuminati to overthrow the power of the Czars in Russia and of making that country a fortress of atheistic Communism. The divergences caused by the ‘agentur’ (agents) of the Illuminati between the British and Germanic Empires will be used to foment this war. At the end of the war, Communism will be built and used in order to destroy the other governments and in order to weaken the religions.”

“The Second World War must be fomented by taking advantage of the differences between the Fascists and the political Zionists. This war must be brought about so that ****sm is destroyed and that the political Zionism be strong enough to institute a sovereign state of Israel in Palestine. During the Second World War, International Communism must become strong enough in order to balance Christendom, which would be then restrained and held in check until the time when we would need it for the final social cataclysm.”

"The Third World War must be fomented by taking advantage of the differences caused by the ‘agentur’ of the ‘Illuminati’ between the political Zionists and the leaders of Islamic World. The war must be conducted in such a way that Islam (the Moslem Arabic World) and political Zionism mutually destroy each other. Meanwhile the other nations, once more divided on this issue will be constrained to fight to the point of complete physical, moral, spiritual and economical exhaustion.

We shall unleash the Nihilists and the Atheists, and we shall provoke a formidable social cataclysm which in all its horror will show clearly to the nations the effect of absolute Atheism, origin of savagery and of the most bloody turmoil. Then everywhere, the citizens, obliged to defend themselves against the world minority of revolutionaries, will exterminate those destroyers of civilization, and the multitude, disillusioned with Christianity, whose deistic spirits will from that moment be without compass or direction, anxious for an ideal, but without knowing where to render its adoration, will receive the true light through the universal manifestation of the pure doctrine of Lucifer, brought finally out in the public view. This manifestation will result from the general reactionary movement which will follow the destruction of Christianity and atheism, both conquered and exterminated at the same time."

If your Husband ever asks you to obtain a Host - make certain you refuse. They desecrate the Host under some rites.
Certainly, you must be joking. Perhaps this occurs in Satanic rituals, but certainly not in the traditional Masonic Lodge. After all, their Masonic rituals are public information freely available for all to read and criticize, if need be, online or in book format.
As the Masonic things are secret, it is hard to know what all the symbolism means, as for the ring for an example.
Perhaps decades ago, prior to the proliferation of the Internet. Anyone can study the Craft from afar by simply reading the rituals, and perhaps only a handful of books on the topic for further clarification of the rituals. There is nothing “so secret” that hasn’t been written down in a ritual book – now freely available for anyone to read with access to a computer.

Jeanannemarie,

You have my sympathy and my prayers. My wife and I are also Catholic converts from mainstream protestantism. Fortunately, we both converted at the same time…and we both have a distrust of Freemasonry. If your husband is a Freemason, chances are you will NOT get him to give up on the “benefits” of membership with any religious or philosophical arguments. Stop doing this at once. You are a Catholic, and you KNOW that PART of your role in this marriage is to be OBEDIENT to your husband. I know this sounds harsh in the 21st century, but the TRUTH never changes. Please read Eph. 5:24, Col. 3:18. So HOW then, does a WIFE, best lead her husband into the true Church? The BEST advice comes to you from our first Pope, St. Peter:

*“In the same way, you wives should be obedient to your husbands. Then if there are some husbands who do not believe the Word, they may find themselves won over, without a word spoken, by the way their wives behave, when they see the reverence and purity of your way of life. Your adornment should be not an exterior one, consisting of braided hair or gold jewellery or fine clothing, but the interior disposition of the heart, consisting in the imperishable quality of a gentle and peaceful spirit, so precious in the sight of God. That was how the holy women of the past dressed themselves attractively – they hoped in God and were submissive to their husbands; like Sarah, who was obedient to Abraham, and called him her lord. You are now her children, as long as you live good lives free from fear and worry.” *- 1Peter3:1-6 (New Jerusalem Bible)

As a man, and a husband, I can think of no truer or better advice that this! 😉

I can’t answer your question, only God knows what degree of culpibility your husband may have for being a mason however
My husband is not Catholic and refuses to take seriously the Church’s stand on Freemasonry. I have not been able to convince him that it is wrong, even after pointing out that the Lutheran Church, in which he was raised, is also against it. He attends Mass with me regularly and wears his Masonic ring, even though I have asked him not to wear it into the church. I have been ruminating on this today and decided to throw it out there for a discussion. Do you think he is Hell-bound?
is very disrespectful not just to you, but to everyone around you guys in Mass. I assume he loves you because he is your husband, if that’s the case he should respect you enough not to wear this to Mass. He needs to stop, and you should be firm on this point.

its not for us to judge who goes to hell or not. God decides, not us. one can make sure they put their feet on the right path to Christ. Christ can come into anyones life. 👍 its up to Him to decide what occurs to us after we meet Him in the shores of eternity. i would not fret about it. live a model life like you have been doing that is pleasing to Jesus. your setting the example for your husband to follow. maybe one day he will ask you about the faith, and you will be prepared. him attending Mass is good. the more he goes, the better. as for his ring, well he has to be willing to throw it out or put it away. it has to come from him. i think he knows your position. but the rest is up to him. you keep living the Godly life you are living. your setting the example for him to follow. ask him to wear a different ring. if he refuses, then don’t force the issue. he knows where you stand. i wish you well.

Hmmm, I don’t think it would be in my best interest to be “obedient” to my husband. He would love it if I did nothing more than wear trashy lingerie, watch filth, and engage in sex whenever he wanted. Oh, and he really would like it if I weren’t a “bible banger” as he likes to put it…
