Will our sins be revealed to others after we die?

A poster in another thread mentioned this, and it has me wondering. I know that God knows our hearts…but once we go to confession, and ask for forgiveness, and repent…will God bring these ‘past’ sins out in the open for others in our lives to see? My mother and father (who died when I was a kid) for example, will know of my every sin, and I will know theirs? I have never heard or read of this…can someone explain?

I have never heard or read of this either. I was informed that after confession and absolution, our sins are forgiven and forgotten.

But even if your parents did find out…if they are in heaven, they are full of love. Like God, they love you NO MATTER WHAT.

Ok…I didn’t remember ever ever reading anything like that. I mean, it sounds kind of bad…God knows what I did, and somehow that is better than my parents knowing everything I have done since their death? Yikes. But, still. I want to keep it between God and me.

your three cats have a say in such matters? aw.

V. THE LAST JUDGMENT **
1038 The resurrection of all the dead, "of both the just and the unjust,"623 will precede the Last Judgment. This will be "the hour when all who are in the tombs will hear [the Son of man’s] voice and come forth, those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment."624 Then Christ will come "in his glory, and all the angels with him. . . . Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left. . . . And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."625

I do tend to think that at the Final Judgement our perspectives will be vastly different from those we now have and adopt.

It seems to me that for those of us who die in the state of mortal sin, the revelation of our sins at the final judgment will be a source of great shame and confustion; for those of us who have been forgiven and die in God’s friendship, the revelation of our sins will fill us with gratitude for God’s great mercy.

You mention your mother and father - so I’m curious…Do you care? Would you want to hear their mortal and/or venial sins - or anyone else’s?

One thing I care about is this - If God wanted to tell the Universe my sins, but it meant I’d be attaining Heaven…who cares? I know I’m not interested in others’ sins - whether they involved me or not. I honestly don’t care. While I’m no model Catholic and don’t pray as I should, salvation is my greatest goal. My soul - not my embarassment - is my greatest concern.

It isn’t something I thought of really…but salvation…is and has always been my greatest concern. Not knowing this though, was surprising.
