If i own a covinience store and sell beer, and somebody buys some to abuse it will I go to hell.

I don’t believe so, but selling to someone you know is drunk or selling to a person you know is an alcoholic may be moraly wrong.

I don’t think you should sell to someone who is already drunk or will abuse alcohol. However I see nothing wrong with selling alcohol in general.

You can not control others behaviors and sins, only if the person is showing signs of being impaired (call police public drunkness is illegal)
Also check ID’s. Here in Tennessee you must present your ID whether you are 21 or 91 EVERYBODY gets checked.

I agree with Br. Rich SFO, selling certain brands of beer could be considered a sin. But I say this as a home brewer.

Now if you knew that the person was underage, and that they were to get drunk and were going out to drive with all their friends, and you still sold it to them, and they all crashed and died, besides the legal responsibility, I might say there was some sin in that. Whether is would be a mortal sin I don’t know.

No. It’s called freedom. If they are of legal age, it is illegal to refuse to sell it to someone.

In the same establishment, why not agree and put up a display rack with 6000 condoms…no cost to you, the wholesaler will take care of everything.
Maybe put the condom kiosk near the beer cooler?? Or maybe a 2nd one near your register?

You are not forcing your customers to purchase the goods you offer. You are offering goods to potential customers, trying to anticipate their needs, and expecting a profit to cover your costs incurred to market these goods.

It is up to you to decide if you can market goods that when used might result in actions contrary to your ideals of living.
You are offering products & services. It is beyond your control as to what happens to these goods when they are paid for and leave your store… and the moment the customer crosses your threshold your obligations are absolved. You offer products… Not a promise as to how they are used.

You are a businessman. This isn’t a hobby, it is the way to provide for yourself & family… but it is YOUR business. You have the power to pick & choose what items you offer. It’s a tough row to hoe…

I have always been under the impression that a retailer may refuse business to anyone.

What law is this? State or Federal? Which state?

What if one of the guests at the Wedding in Cana got drunk and fell in a well and drowned, would that make Jesus responsible?

As adults we have to take responsibility for our actions. Probably after we reach the age of reason ( 7).

Depends on the beer.🙂 Sorry…couldn’t resist.

As others have pointed out…you’re selling a legal product that is not immoral in itself. It’s as if you were blaming yourself for selling Doritos because someone comprised their diet of that and became morbidly obese and died of a heart attack. Death by nachos. That’s not your fault or sin for selling the chips.

Discrimination is illegal. You can’t just arbitrarily decide you don’t want to let someone buy beer from your store.

Beyond the law, it’s pretty freaking self righteous to go around judging people’s drinking and refusing to sell to people.

Discrimination is illegal.
No it’s not. Racial discrimination is illegal. In some cases discrimination based on creed, veteran status, ect is also covered. But if I don’t want to sell to someone because I don’t like people who wear blue socks then generally I don’t have to.

Yup. Unless you are a bartender and trained to do that.

That is not correct. Unless you do so based on race, creed, nationality or other protected status, you most certainly can decide who you will sell to.

Self righteous? In Texas, if you sell alcohol to anyone who appears to be intoxicated, you can be held criminally liable. It is not only your right to refuse sale to that individual, it is the law that you do so.

You are in no more danger than the grocer who sells food to a glutton. What people do with something that is a gift from God is their responsibility. But scripture teaches that alcoholic beverages are a gift, that they make the heart glad and and even Jesus enjoyed them. If someone abuses this gift, as any other they are sinning, not you.

Some of my best conversations about Christ were when I worked as a bartender.

You will not go to Hell for legally selling beer, but if it bothers you don’t sell it. It is your store and if you don’t want to sell beer you don’t have to.

I believe the point has been made earlier that discrimination is not illegal unless your discriminating based on race, religion, or gender.
Beyond the law, it’s pretty freaking self righteous to go around judging people’s drinking and refusing to sell to people.
Self righteousness has nothing to do with it.
How about I simply will not sell to you because I do not like your attitude?
See, one need not be making a moral statement at all when refusing business.

As long as you do not disciminate based on race, creed, disability, gender or country of national origin you can refuyse anyne you want. i , for instance, refuse to do tax returns for anyone who is in any way connected with the abortion industry. although i have had a few complaints filed on me none of them stuck
