Will the SSPX submit to the 5 Conditions?

The SSPX are not interested in being in communion with Rome. They are like some groups of hidden Christians in Japan who refused to enter into communion with Rome because it meant giving up some of the power their leaders had acrrued over the centuries of isolation. Fellay would rather be a large fish in a small pond than a small fish in a large pond. His ego is his major stumbling block.

Bingo! 👍

Very sad. It looks unlikely that there will be any reconciliation at this point (source). The five conditions seemed utterly reasonable to me. And yet Bishop Fellay interprets them as being a big “shut up.”

In situations like this, I recall what Pope Benedict wrote in the foreword of his great book “Jesus of Nazareth”:

"I would only ask my readers for that initial goodwill without which there can be no understanding."

It seems like so much progress could be made if we at least started off with assuming good will on the part of the person we’re communicating with. It is simply not possible to really understand what another is saying if we begin by assuming ill will and ulterior motives.

Just think of how many heated battles here at CAF could be avoided if we followed this rule!

On what day does the SSPX have to respond by? The 30th of June? They may complain that a week isn’t enough time. But that is only if they reply in the positive. So one can expect that day to pass without a word, at least judging by everyones negative reaction on this thread.

I continue to pray for a positive reply.

I got these SSPX threads mixed up and thought I was in the other thread. I just read through this one and the article on Fellay and his refusal of the conditions. Doesn’t sound promising.

I know Fellay’s already said no, but I continue to pray and offer things up for a conversion of hearts. Let’s just keep praying and praying. Let’s get those mustard seeds together and move some mountains with our prayers and love 👍

And just what exactly are you insinuating by that?

😃

I voted no, imho I think the SSPX will be the new protestants which is very sad. 😦
