Just wondering if there are any non-Catholics who will see the pope when he comes to this country this year. There will be millions of people at these outdoor Masses. There always are when a pope visits.

I will add that I use to listen to Billy Graham on television. I just loved hearing the Word of God and I am Catholic (as if y’all don’t know this by now).

If I still lived in New Jersey you bet I’d be there if at all possible. But then I’m an unusually pope-loving non-Catholic, and I’m particularly fond of this Pope.

That is very nice. Were you fond of John Paul? He did so much for mankind. I love Benedict, he is a brilliant man. I had an audience with him in October and was Blessed by him. I also was priviledged to have knelt at JP’s tomb there also.

Actually, if what I read on another thread is true, then the tickets to the New York Mass are already sold out (in the sense that the total allotment has already been distributed, there was no price tag). Each diocese in America received a very small number of tickets (around 1000) that were distributed in January on a first come, first serve basis to parishoners. The Mass is to be at Yankee Stadium, and can only accommodate around 80,000 people. Tickets will be printed with the parishoner’s full name and checked against lists at the entrances to prevent scalping.

I liked JPII very much as well, but B16 speaks to me far more deeply. I liked his theological work long before he became Pope–he understands what it’s like to doubt and question the faith, and he has a very profound, mystical understanding of the Christian tradition. He’s been completely caricatured by the media who can’t be bothered to read beyond soundbites.That is very nice. Were you fond of John Paul? He did so much for mankind. Pope Benedict knows how to preach the Gospel–perhaps better (for my taste) than anyone else now living.

He uses plain language, and doesn’t “over-season” his preaching with a lot of obscure, technical theological jargon. He also sticks to the subject; he doesn’t meander all over the place. And he keeps it short and memorable.

I bought his book “Jesus of Nazareth”. It is very good. Easy to read. He explains it very nicely.
