Will there be more women in heaven than men? There seem to be about four times as many women as men at my Church on Sundays attending Mass and taking Holy Communion.

From the Story of a Soul, the Autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux, Third Edition Translated from the Original Manuscripts by John Clarke, O.C.D.
Manuscript A, Page 140

I still cannot understand why women are so easily excommunicated in Italy, for every minute someone was saying: “Don’t enter here! Don’t enter there, you will be excommunicated!” Ah! Poor women, how they are misunderstood! And yet they love God in much larger numbers than men do and during the Passion of Our Lord, women had more courage than the apostles since they braved the insults of the soldiers and dared to dry the adorable Face of Jesus. It is undoubtedly because of this that He allows misunderstanding to be their lot on earth, since He chose it for Himself. In heaven, He will show that His thoughts are not men’s thoughts, for then the last will be first.

I don’t know if this means that there will be more women than men in heaven but I sure do believe that women are doing something right if St. Therese of Liseux believes that God allows misunderstanding to be women’s lot on earth. He chose it for Himself!

it depends on what those church-going women are doing the rest of the week. if they spend it gossiping, trashing their neighbors, spending money like water, backstabbing friends, well my guess would be no. There is a whole lot more to holiness and virtue than Mass attendance.

Tell those non-church going men to listen up: If you want to meet women in heaven, you’d better start showing up at Church.

They could be receiving Communion in a state of sin. Then what?

If it is venial sin, worthy reception of Holy Communion is effective for the forgiveness of those sins. If it is mortal sin, reception of of Holy Communion while concious of mortal sin might objectively be sacrilegious, and an additional mortal sin. As we do not in fact know the state of these hypothetical women’s souls, speculation along these lines is not very likely answer the question as to whether more women than men will be in Heaven.

**Wonderful! Yes, I like this. I think this is all very true. Women (at their best) are more loving and more open to the appeal of religion than men. And it does seem to be the case that God makes those he loves most suffer most.

Thank you!**

Remember St. Therese. She lived a holy life. She did more than embrace her lot in life. She ran for it and loved it. Have you ever read her book? You can find it here used for 99 cents! !!!

You will find this to be peaceful and satisfying reading.

why does it matter? It reminds me of the question that was asked of Jesus, about the woman whose husband dies, and then she marries the brother, and then he dies, and she marries the next, and so on. So whose husband will she be in the afterlife? And Jesus basically says that’s not what it’s all about.

my guess is yes!

I’m not worried about the demographics of who makes it and who doesn’t. I just pray that I make it and all my friends and loved ones makes it.:tiphat:

Yes.

Men are too reluctant to admit they should submit to authority.

I suppose it’s true that men have a harder time living a holy life, particularly when it comes to sexual sins.
Does this mean that there are less of them in heaven? I dunno, maybe, maybe not. They just have to try a bit harder, I guess.

Or try the proven method:

Flip a coin. :twocents: See, even better–flip two! 😃

Thought: If China keeps killing off daughters, and the Church’s hope that children that die before baptism of water is fulfilled, then there will be a lot more women that die without actual sin. Wildly speculative, but so is this thread…

There will not be more women than men in heaven; although at heavenly social events it may perhaps seem like it . . .

who knows. but i bet there will be a lot more mexicans, south americans, and central americans in heaven than north americans!

For a feminist, yes.
