Will voting for conservatives change abortion Laws?

Will voting for conservatives change abortion Laws and gay marriage Laws? If not, why vote for them? And why vote for them over other parties that can create a better society for the poor, despite abortion and gay marriage?
 
Thinking just in terms of the abortion issue, and looking just at the appointment of Supreme Court justices, the chances of getting a pro-life justice are significant if there is a Republican president and a Republican majority in the Senate. On the other hand, the chances of getting a pro-life justice are nil if there is a Democratic president.

You also need to re-examine your assumption that Democratic policies have been good for the poor.

You say that pro life justices are more likely given the election of a republican president. But even if that is true, why does that have relevance in changing abortion laws? If any of what you said is relevant at all then why haven’t abortion laws changed when republicans were presidents?

Because Roe v Wade was decided by a decidedly liberal Supreme court and needs to be reversed by a conservative Supreme Court, which it has been very difficult to create given the appointments of Bill Clinton and Obama.

Why do you assume that a conservative Supreme Court would change those laws? Why do you think that it is a matter of what a particular judge believes as opposed to abortion laws being a reflection of the liberalisation of the legal process itself?

The legal process is only as liberal as the federal judges appointed by the POTUS. Ergo, a conservative POTUS will appointed conservative federal judges.

The poor would be better served by programs that encourge their children to stay in school and get job training instead of throwing money away in a welfare system that rewards single motherhood, destroys families, and keeps people in generational poverty.
 
It doesn’t matter whether it would change the law or not. A person who believes in unrestricted abortion on demand is morally unfit to hold any position of public trust. Supporting abortion does not happen in a vacuum-it indicates a great degree of amorality where life is secondary to political goals.

The abortion issue will not be settled in the Supreme Court.
The abortion issue will not be settled in the White House or in any governor’s mansion.
The abortion issue will not be settled in the United States Congress or in any state legislature.
The abortion issue will not be settled until the women of America learn that it is children who are being killed in the abortion process. Once that realization sets in, there won’t be an abortion clinic left in America that’s not surrounded by angry women demanding its closure.

You mean morally unfit according to your Catholic belief system. But since you cannot provide genuine evidence that a foetus is a person I don’t see what relevance your moral beliefs have in respect of the legal process.

You could also ask whether it’s worth while to attend right-to-life marches when abortion remains legal. In the eyes of God, whether your actions bring about change isn’t as important as the fact that you tried!

Wasting time and money better spent evangelising is not good in Gods eyes. Legalism is not the most important thing. Angry people shouting your evil your a murderer, is not change. Evangelising people to the truth with love is more important than trying to coerce a change that is not legally possible.

Abortion will remain legal in this country until catholic democrats come to love the unborn more than they hate the GOP
 
Frankly, I am disgusted by both sides on this issue. The Democrats are staunchly anti-life and have successfully alienated every faithful Christian with their anti-God platforms. The Republicans are no better. They have a vested interest in keeping the abortion debate on the table and front and center, as a wedge issue so that they can continue to garner the pro-life voting bloc for themselves and keep it away from the Dems. This means that no Republican in his right mind would abolish abortion altogether. If it weren’t for the pro-life issue I would have a much harder time justifying my votes for Republicans. If pro-life were off the table and the Democrats weren’t so anti-God in general, I might well go back to voting for them. Because Catholics are not single-party voters. We do not align nicely to all the beliefs of a political party.

As the issue stands now I can never justify voting against a pro-life candidate. That will be my primary motivation in the foreseeable future. I can only pray that the Democrats will see how limiting it is to be anti-God and anti-life. And I also pray that Republicans will actually work to make abortion illegal, rather than paying lip service to get themselves elected. But I am not holding my breath that anything will change.

Passing over 100 abortion restriction laws, which would not have happened without republicans, in the past 2 years, is lip service?

Dr Michael J New looked at abortion laws and it was published in peer reviewed State Politics and Policy Quarterly. He reviewed from 1985 - 2005 and found the 3 approaches to abortion restriction laws reduced the abortion rate and he said the laws

have an impact on the childbearing decisions of women

130 plus abortion restriction laws have been passed in the states in the last 2 years by pro life candidates. These laws have an impact on the abortion rate, they decrease it which means less business for the aboriton clinics. On a regular basis I hear of abortion clinics closing down after abortion restriction laws were passed in a state and lives are saved
