Will voting for Liberals lower poverty, unemployment and the deficit?

I would welcome the zeal he expresses when supporting abortion, abortion providers and abortion mandates if he were to turn it toward a pro life agenda.
Okay, I posed this question on another thread and I have had no responses so I’ll try it here.

How is a “Legal but rare” position morally different from “Legal only in cases of rape, incest, and saving the life of the mother”???

Because those who spout" legal and rare" do everything possible to make sure it isnt rare. In fact they have vowed to keep unrestricted abortion on demand the law of the land.

It isn’t.Just political mumbo jumbo. Both sides are guilty.

Speaking of ProVobis, you didn’t respond to my response to YOU regarding the pro life response to someone from the dark side who turned toward the protection of life…even if a Democrat…thanks to Jeanne S who did apparently read it.

"Safe, legal, and rare is an oxymoron. Safe for whom? It is never safe for the child involved. And it’s not without risk to the mother as well. Further “rare” is a relative term…rare in comparison to what? Rare in comparision to the millions that have occurred since Roe? That would still mean hundreds of thousands of babies killed.

While I certainly do not support the rather wishy washy “legal only in cases of rape or incest”, this is a TINY TINY fraction of abortions. I am not holding out for perfection or nothing. Thus I could support a “legal only for rape or incest” position knowing that it would mean far fewer abortions than some vague platitude about “safe, legal, and rare.”

That’'s why it is particularly galling that these exceptions rule…and have destroyed more than one political career if not doing significant damage to the entire Republican brand.

OK fair is fair, I showed you mine, now you show me yours; do you REALLY think that we who support life would not welcome someone from the anti-life side having a change of heart regardless of party? As EstesBob said, you must think we’re not just dupes but political hacks as well…not very charitable 🤷

Its not so much what Obama has inherited it whats hes spending. Heres a title on Forbes.com (Peter Ferrara, contributer) has to say about President Obama: The Biggest Government Spender In World History.
If true this is more typical of Keynesians whose goal is to spend until the recession is over.
Our debt will be over 20 trillion before this guy is done.To start with theres nothing free about Obama Care.
It will probably be more than that. But the second sentence is a nonsequitor as the CBO projects it will actually reduce the debt.
What liberals want is socialism.
True but don’t the “conservatives” tend in that direction as well? Didn’t any “conservative” governors accept federal funds to pay their teachers, etc. as those states were running into a lot of red ink?
Bottom line short and simple I bet I can name more socialist government run countries
worse off than we are (financially and poverty stricken) than you could name any socialist run government that is better off financially and lower poverty levels than our country.
Okay, but my goal isn’t socialism. I have more libertarian inklings; I didn’t read all those Ayn Rand and Harry Browne books for the heck of it. I still believe in a hard asset standard.
Even Hitler tackled unemployment and brought financial gain to Germany under a dictator/socialistic umbrella. We can agree that left a huge scar both on Germany and the world over.
Some historians blame saving Germany as what led us to the Great Depression and causing massive unemployment here. Yes, it definitely left a huge scar.
In the words of Winston Churchill
“The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of misery.”
Winston Churchill
The U.K. had no more capitalism than the U.S. I lived there during Churchill’s time.
As for me and my family we prefer freedom and freedom does not come with Big Government.
So who doesn’t prefer freedom? As for Big Government, the Chinese representative in the movie “Too Big to Fail” said it best. “Sometimes the relationship between government and private industry is not so simple.”
My possessions were not given to me by the government I earned them. Through education and hard work. I suspect yours were too.
Then good for us. 👍
Some are poor and sick beyond their control we dont need huge government national health care programs to take care of them.
No we don’t. And we don’t need a Department of Health either. But let’s face it, where would we be without the Salk vaccine?
Pax et bonum
Pax et bonum quoque.

Reagan the mass murderer…Romney the profiteer of abortion? When you make such outrageous, specious and hysterical claims, the rest of your argument loses credibility.
I provided evidence to support these claims the first time I made them (the claims being that Reagan’s foreign policy towards South America included genocide and that Mitt Romney is a profiteer of abortion). Unless you can disprove the evidence (ie official government documents, in both instances…) then I will stand by what I said. Estesbob tried to refute the fact that Romney is a profiteer of abortion with partisan conjecture, but the claims made are completely dismantled by the SEC documents with Romney’s signature on them. Abortion has made Romney an incredibly wealthier man, and he was already massively so.

Also, yes, President Obama, without any doubt, supports religious freedom.

politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2012/sep/26/government-not-god-pac/pac-ad-says-obama-will-force-christian-groups-pay-/

Can you show me exactly which bills Republicans have proposed that supposedly makes them the pro-life platform? Is there any evidence whatsoever to support the claim that voting for Republicans reduces the rates of abortion? If so, please provide.

Ron Paul is a pro-life libertarian whose been running for President since the '70’s, and never seems to garner much attention from the “Catholic conservatives”

Your claims are so ridiculous that they do not merit my spending any time responding. You are obviously convinced but not very convincing.

I’m not so sure about Ron Paul: he has at times given indications he is pro-life and at other times pro-choice with respect to states’ rights on abortion.

With regard to Reagan and mass murder, I had thought you were talking about abortion or possibly his lack of support for gay AIDS victims, rather than his foreign policy (i.e. the Iran-Contra affair). Still, the charge of mass murderer is a strong one.

If I had known he was a Ron Paul fanatic I wouldnt have wasted my time with him either.

I’m not a Ron Paul ‘fanatic,’ I was just giving an example of an alternative candidate who runs on a pro-life basis. I’ve been met with such aggression, assertions have been thrown at me left and right, and yet all I am trying to do is foster a discussion. I haven’t called anybody names, I haven’t questioned anybody’s intention or intellect, the only time I made an assertion was in regards to people voting Republican as being duped, something that I stand by as nobody has made a plausible argument to show that voting Republican actually does anything to curb abortion rates. And when I ask for some proof, you say “ah whatever, you’re just crazy and not worth my time.” I wonder if Christ would have handled someone who disagreed with him in a similar fashion

You’re new so a word of advice. On this Forum, you disagree with conservative Republicans at your own risk, particularly if you’re from NYC!

It’s not so much disagreement with Republicans as disagreement with Catholic teaching such as life issues. Those who do, as Archbishop Chaput noted, the kind of mental gymnastics it takes to support the Abortion Advocate Obama, are not disagreeing with Republicans but disagreeing with Catholic teaching.

ProVobis posited the theory that we, the duped, the political hacks are SOOOO stuck on labels that we would be hostile to a pro-life Democrat or a previously pro abortion Democrat whose heart and mind and position changed. I pointed out NUMEROUS instances of where vehement abortion advocates and PRACTITIONERS have been welcomed with open arms into the pro life fold. So far neither he, nor anyone else has provided any evidence that a pro-life candidate would be rejected simply because of party affiliation.

I challenge you Meltzerboy to provide evidence of your position as well. You and I have met on the formums many times and I know your position regarding abortion from a liberal Jewish point of view. I don’t know what party you support but my objection to your position has ZERO to do with that affiliation or your Jewish faith, but simply that I find your position on abortion…misguided? Not internally consistent.

Again party affiliation is not the reason for disagreement.

Which brings us to another philosophical point. Is one more pro-life because he says he is or he does something constructive about it? What good are all these Sanctity of Life bills if they know they have zero chance of being law? Where were they when the Republicans controlled both chambers, the WH, and the Supreme Court? And even if they overturn Roe vs Wade and give the power back to the states, Reagan’s signed bill in California will still allow abortions there, and abortions will be legal in many other states as well.

That said, you gotta give them credit for their fundraising and get-out-the-votes efforts. But what a waste of money it’s proven to be when one realizes how much of that money could have been better spent on helping pregnant women instead.

Wow the strawmen are on the march.

Congress cannot overturn Roe v Wade.
Reagan was governor of California decades ago. If the state wanted to change the laws there have been many opportunities to do so.
You have no clue regarding where pro life fundraising efforts go do you? Do you have ANY evidence that pregnant women have gone to crisis pregnancy centers and have been turned down because all of the funding went to legislation? I didn’t think so.

This is the typical canard trotted out anytime a restriction on abortion is proposed…oh you Right Wingnuts want to stop women from aborting but you toss them out in the street after they have the kid.

Of course this totally ignores the many millions of dollars that support mothers and babies, not necessarily through government programs but through local charities…oh and how about FAMILIES? I can tell you many families who have been disappointed with the choices daughters made but are 100% supportive of both the daughter and her baby.

I do think ProVobis that you would definitely qualify for the Olympic Archbishop Chaput suggested. Mental gymnastics are certainly more challenging than beach volleyball

As I’ve said numerous times, Lisa, my personal position on abortion–which may even disagree somewhat with the “official” Jewish position–is meant in no way to negate your position, which I take it is based on both Church teaching and your own reasoning. In fact, I will and have defended Catholics’ right to oppose abortion on religious and moral grounds by means of protest at abortion clinics, by petition, etc. And I have myself protested the HHS mandate because I view it as a violation of religious liberty, as Cardinal Dolan has so eloquently pointed out. However, from my own liberal perspective (I happen to be a Democrat but only because that party presently advocates more liberal views), I cannot see denying others their right to an abortion based on their own religious views and reasoning, even though you may regard the latter as misguided. The same argument applies to issues such as same-sex marriage and euthanasia. I do not find it internally inconsistent to hold my own views and practice my own beliefs while, at the same time, refusing to protest against the beliefs others may hold. You are free to do so but I am also free not to do so. THAT is what I think many conservatives, largely Republican these days, fail to grasp. I don’t see this as “mental gymnastics”; I view it as a liberal way of thinking and behaving.

So a person should be surprised that in a catholic forum they get corrected by people when they attack Catholic teaching?

I haven’t reread their posts, but did the poster actually ATTACK Catholic teaching or rather disagree with it as well as conservative philosophy?

First be aware that the “mental gymnastics” reference was with respect to CATHOLICS voting for Obama and trying to justify their position…they cannot despite turning into human pretzels in the effort.

You are certainly “free” to vote for Obama regardless of his Abortocratic positions because you are not a Catholic.

My opposition to abortion although consistent with my Catholic faith was arrived prior to my becoming Catholic, in fact prior to my even becoming a Christian. As I have stated many times, I was raised a heathen by atheist, militantly anti-religious liberal Democrate parents. Despite all of the brainwashing at some point I saw the human rights issues with respect to abortion as well as euthanasia as being analagous to many other human rights battles where the strong must speak for those who have no voice.

As to becoming a Republican, this also predated my conversion and was based on being a CPA, starting when tax rates on income were 70% and seeing that the reduction in tax rates not only brought in income but also blasted the economy out of the Carter doldrums. At the time I was decidedly a feminist and pro abortion rights. I was terrified of Reagan’s pro life stance but hoped that between his pro choice (at the time) VP Bush 41 and Roe, we women would have our “rights” to kill our babies preserved.

Thus for anyone to claim that my objection to Obama and the current DNC platform is because I am a Republican borders on ridiculous. If Obama were to change his militant anti-life position I would be more than delighted and my negative opinion of him would be greatly changed. Whether he converts to the Republican party is irrelevant to me.

I vote and support positions and people not parties.

Lisa

Mental gymnastics indeed. people who claim to be pro-life yet, claim those of us who work in the ministry are dupes and that the best way to stop abortion is to empower people who support unrestricted taxpayer funded abortion on demand!
