Will voting for Liberals lower poverty, unemployment and the deficit?

Mental gymnastics indeed. people who claim to be pro-life yet, claim those of us who work in the ministry are dupes and that the best way to stop abortion is to empower people who support unrestricted taxpayer funded abortion on demand!
Yep that makes perfect sense…right along the lines of those who claim Obama is pro life and supports religious freedom. Too bad George Orwell is dead. He could use today’s political climate to write a new version of l984…up is down, black is white and Obama is pro life. A vote for Obama is a vote for healthy babies! Indeed!

I haven’t reread their posts, but did the poster actually ATTACK Catholic teaching or rather disagree with it as well as conservative philosophy?
Ones political philosophy has nothing to do with adhering to the teachings of the Church. Go back to the posts were he made the ridiculous assertion that obama was pro-life, gave as evidence an article in an non-catholic magazine and then dismissed the direct refutation of that idea from two bishops and the Pope, and now you, to my great surprise, dismiss those who challenge him as being nothing more a conservative dogmatists. you actually paint him as the victim!

Archbishop Chaput adresses that also:

We need to be very forceful in defending what the words in our political vocabulary really mean. Words are important because they shape our thinking, and our thinking drives our actions. When we subvert the meaning of words like ‘‘the common good’’ or ‘‘conscience’’ or ‘‘community’’ or ‘‘family,’’ we undermine the language that sustains our thinking about the law. Dishonest language leads to dishonest debate and bad laws

This is a plain disingenuous comment. How about calling Ron Paul supporters fanatics? You have REPEATEDLY mocked perhaps the most pro-life member of Congress and don’t even bother stating reasons why. If you feel that his supporters are duping you, can you at least specify how you come to that conclusion?

Bob, I’m not going to get into a discussion or argument with you over the statements of a third party. I’ll let the poster defend himself. I was just pointing out to him, in a lighthearted way, that many on this Forum are conservative in their politics; I did not use the words dogmatic or even ideological.

I wasnt talking about Ron Paul.

It’s not so much disagreement with Republicans as disagreement with Catholic teaching such as life issues. Those who do, as Archbishop Chaput noted, the kind of mental gymnastics it takes to support the Abortion Advocate Obama, are not disagreeing with Republicans but disagreeing with Catholic teaching.

ProVobis posited the theory that we, the duped, the political hacks are SOOOO stuck on labels that we would be hostile to a pro-life Democrat or a previously pro abortion Democrat whose heart and mind and position changed. I pointed out NUMEROUS instances of where vehement abortion advocates and PRACTITIONERS have been welcomed with open arms into the pro life fold. So far neither he, nor anyone else has provided any evidence that a pro-life candidate would be rejected simply because of party affiliation.

I challenge you Meltzerboy to provide evidence of your position as well. You and I have met on the formums many times and I know your position regarding abortion from a liberal Jewish point of view. I don’t know what party you support but my objection to your position has ZERO to do with that affiliation or your Jewish faith, but simply that I find your position on abortion…misguided? Not internally consistent.

Again party affiliation is not the reason for disagreement.

I’m starting to think you’re less interested in civil discussions and more interested in poking with sticks. I’ve stated numerous times that I support neither Democrats nor Republicans, I never tried to convince anyone that Obama is pro-life (in fact I quite plainly state that he is pro-choice), and until he says “everyone has to be athiest” I’ll stand by my statement that he supports religious freedoms (talk about hyperbole). I never said anything that’s not in line with the infallible teachings of the Church (feel free to scroll back through posts to prove me wrong).

Lisa, you say you vote on a basis of individuality. Does that mean you completely ignore the fact that the parties act as collectives? Would you at least admit that the Republican party is not in line (not even close) with the Church’s social teachings? You can say it is on abortion and sexuality all you want (I’m still not convinced, still waiting for that evidence) but just because you perceive them as ‘correct’ in those regards doesn’t mean they’re right about anything else. How come you can demand evidence but when I ask you for a source for your claims, the response I get is “you’re not worth my time.”?

I mean, honestly, it’s getting harder and harder to take you guys seriously. I never attacked Church teachings, I never said Obama was pro-life. I said he wasn’t pro-abortion, therein lies the difference. You’ve continually misinterpreted things I’ve said and then continued to paint me in a negative light. I’m not assailing the Church, I’m disagreeing with you. Oh, and the bishop too, I disagree with him quite a bit. But I’m well within my rights as a Catholic to do so, the bishop is not incorruptible, what he says is not the pope speaking ex cathedra.

OK TI, tell me what speck of evidence indicates he is NOT pro-abortion? We have provided you with many examples of his philosophy being not simply pro-choice which I attribute to ignorance rather than an understanding of what is actually happening in an abortion.

Everything Obama has done has promoted access, funding and support for abortions, abortion providers and abortion supporting politicians. Thus I conclude he is pro-abortion.

TI, actually I know you don’t support Republicans or Democrats. The majority of your early posts were on the subject of creating some sort of “Catholic” party. However you have been very obvious in your support for Democrat positions on the area of taxation, massive government social programs and giving the party a ‘pass’ on abortion because they are willing to tax some of us to IMO buy a voting bloc consisting of those who have become dependent on the government either for goodies or to protect their business interests.

And no I absolutely do not believe that the Republican platform is directly opposed to Catholic Social Teaching. I have a pretty good understanding of this concept as it’s the class I teach every year as part of our RCIA Team. There is nothing in Catholic Social Teaching that says we should become more and more dependent upon the government both for benefits and to provide “proper” distribution of goods and services. There is certainly nothing in Catholic Social Teaching that says we should look first to the FEDERAL government for same. Catholic Social Teaching IS in direct opposition to many Democrat platform positions, most notably the anti-life approach that has become more and more strident. The Democrats support abortion at any time for any reason or no reason. The Democrats want contraception to be free and available to anyone and indeed that those who disagree with this practice must actually PAY FOR IT. Further they are now providing full throated support for same sex “marriage” which by definition is also ANTI-LIFE. It’s rather stunning how consistent they are but always in direct opposition to life.

Further as you have been told repeatedly, life issues are unique and everything flows from protecting life. IOW a tax policy, a social program; is a non issue if the citizen has died from an abortion or wasn’t conceived due to promoting contraception and SSM.

As to not giving you the time, this was in direct response to your quite ridiculous comments about Reagan being a “mass murderer” and Romney making millions from abortions. PUH-LEASE…such outrageous and unsubstantiated comments are truly not worthy of a response.

So you disagree with any members of the Magestium that disagree with your politics but wave an article you found in a magazine that supports your views like the sword of Excalibur Lets be blunt here There is nothing in the teachings of the Church that even remotely supports your views

So where in the Church teachings does it say we have to lower taxes, cut all social programs, and increase the military spending many times over? And you can call my claims outrageous if you desire, but you can’t call them unsubstantiated as I provided irrefutable evidence. Romney made millions off abortion, that is an undeniable fact. Reagan enabled genocide, that is an undeniable fact.

And estesbob, really? I quoted one little paragraph from that article, about the correlation between poverty and abortion rates, and then provided the evidence from which the conclusion that I quoted was made. Hardly the sword of Excalibur. You’re hung up on ONE of my sources while continually ignoring parts of my arguments where I used the catechism and direct quotes from the Pope…

Bishop Paprocki added that the Democrats’ national platform supports “same-sex marriage,” deems gay rights to be “human rights” and calls for the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act which defines marriage as the legal union of one man and one woman in federal law.

The bishop noted the existence of Republicans who support legalized abortion and others who support “same-sex marriage.” He said they are “equally as wrong as their Democratic counterparts” but their positions do not have official party support.

Bishop Paprocki also examined the Republican Party platform and found that it has “nothing in it that supports or promotes an intrinsic evil or a serious sin.”

The platform’s support for allowing courts the option of imposing the death penalty in capital murder cases is not inherently opposed to Church teaching. He cited the Catechism of the Catholic Church’s teaching that the death penalty is permissible if it is the only possible way to defend human life.

I would imagine all the “abortion alternatives” provided in the ACA would disprove the idea that President Obama is “pro-abortion.” I mean, think about what the implication is there; that he’s sitting in the oval office, twiddling his fingers, cackling like a cartoon villain over how many abortions are going on… He doesn’t want people to get abortions, but he also doesn’t want them to be unable to get one if that is their choice. Yes, this is against Church teachings, but that does not make him pro-abortion. It makes him pro-choice. I’m not condoning anything, but demonizing the man is not a solution either.

Springfield, Ill., Sep 27, 2012 / 02:11 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Drawing particular attention to the Democratic Party platform’s support for “intrinsic evils” like abortion and “same-sex marriage,” Bishop Thomas J. Paprocki of Springfield, Ill. has said Catholics need to “think and pray very carefully” about their votes in the upcoming election.

“My job is not to tell you for whom you should vote. But I do have a duty to speak out on moral issues,” Bishop Paprocki said in his Sept. 23 column for the Catholic Times diocesan paper. “I would be abdicating this duty if I remained silent out of fear of sounding ‘political’ and didn’t say anything about the morality of these issues.”

He said that voting for a candidate who promotes actions or behaviors that are “intrinsically evil and gravely sinful” makes a voter “morally complicit” and places the eternal salvation of his or her soul in “serious jeopardy.”

There are “many positive and beneficial planks” in the Democratic Party platform, the bishop said, but some promote “serious sins.”

In 2008, he noted, the platform dropped its call for abortion to be “safe, legal and rare” in favor of the language “safe and legal.” It now supports abortion “regardless of the ability to pay.” He said this means either taxpayer funding for abortion, mandatory insurance coverage, or coercion of hospitals to perform the procedures for free.

He cited the Catechism of the Catholic Church’s teaching that the death penalty is permissible if it is the only possible way to defend human life.

Bishop Paprocki said that party differences about the needs of the poor and the challenges of immigration are “prudential judgments about the most effective means of achieving morally desirable ends, not intrinsic evils.”

He concluded his column with a prayer that God give Catholic voters the “wisdom and guidance to make the morally right choices.”

Again you get tangled in the weeds of methods of addressing social issues, toss in a strawman, and create a policy that doesn’t exist. The Church’s teaching is focused not on budgets or tax policy but on human interaction, what we owe God and our neighbor. The Church does not weigh in on a particular tax rate as being appropriate nor does any Republican demand “all social programs be cut…” and I don’t recall anyone running on a massive increase to the military budget. You’ve made up a bunch of claims that are little more than the very hyperbole you accuse others of exhibiting.

Stick with the facts, it’s much easier to remember them. Reagan as “mass murderer” or Romney “profiteer of abortion” is bloviating and derails the rest of your argument. All Presidents could be accused of some indirect influence upon deaths. How many innocent Japanese and Germans died due to the bombings in Hiroshima or even Dresden? Are Truman and Roosevelt mass murderes? How about the genocides in Africa during Clinton’s years? Is he too a mass murderer? Your claims are so specious, I wonder if even you believe them.

Maybe let’s get back to the thread. Have Liberal policies reduced poverty and unemployment? Obama’s record would indicate no. Unemployment is higher as is poverty. Americans have lost substantial net worth (I can certainly attest to that). These policies have created a boom in the stock market however. Darn those evil Wall Street guys come out no matter who’s in office! But ask your neighbors if these policies have helped THEM? I can tell you that in my church, at my place of work, at my gym, I have never in my life seen so many capable, educated, hard working people who cannot find a decent job. I have never until the past few years met ANYONE who lost their home due to foreclosure. Something is not working…along with millions of Americans.

Please provide some realistic arguments and not a cartoonish version of the objections to Obama.

He is PRO ABORTION in my opinion and based on a massive amount of evidence. He voted against the Babies Born Alive bill. He voted for INFANTICIDE TI. That’s even a step further than the usual drivel about “women’s rights.” He commented that he wanted abortion available so if his daughters became pregnant at an inconvenient time, he didn’t want them “punished with a baby.” A baby is punishment?

He appointed Kathleen Sebelius as HHS. Sebelius has a long history of supporting George Tiller aka Tiller the Killer as well as Planned Parenthood in Kansas. Sebelius is VERY pro abortion and spoke in support to Tiller’s evil business of putting a scissors in the back of a baby’s head, dismembering him or her and then pulling the body parts from the mother. There is little doubt this appointment signalled a pro abortion stance for “health” issues.

As soon as he was elected the Mexico City policy was reversed thus insuring MORE abortions funded by you and me!

He said in is first hundred days he would shove through FOCA which attempted to force medical providers to provide abortion and sterilization services against their religious beliefs. Fortunately he was stopped.

The DNC was an aborta-palooza with NARAL and Planned Parenthood center stage along with Sandra Fluke as their new poster girl begging for free birth control pills.Further the support not only of abortion at any time for no reason, the DNC pushed for taxpayer funding of abortion…the last hurdle to jump before utopia!

Recently when hundreds of thousands marched on the anniversary of Roe, Obama took the time to CONGRATULATE the abortion providers and supporters on protecting “choice” Needless to say he did NOT speak at the March for Life.

I don’t believe Obama thinks of this as killing human beings. I grew up with parents much like him and they were misguided elitists who had a Sanger-esque attitude as to who was worthy of life and who would simply sprout another human weed. He sees abortion as solving problems, not as killing. I don’t relate to this point of view but I grew up with it so I recognize it.

Obama is pro abortion based on the above and more. Now if you’d like to provide evidence to the contrary, I’d be delighted to hear it.

You can argue the correlation between foreign policy leaders and foreign policy end results (something that quite ironically parallels your assertions that Obama is pro-abortion. Such is the irony of life), but you simply can’t argue for Romney.

motherjones.com/documents/392937-stericycle-13d-1999

The document that notes that Romney was the sole shareholder of the companies that profited from Stericycle.

And another.
