I sorta hope not – at least not any time soon. I think the recent popes knew what they were doing when they discontinued their use. I applaud them all.…with the flabellum, the sedia gestatoria, and the triple crown? It would be wonderful…
I agree with you about not using the flabellium and the sedia gestoria, but I would like to see Pope Benedict XVI to wear the tiara and use the real papal staff or papal crosier (upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/6b/San_Silvestro.JPG/180px-San_Silvestro.JPG) when celebrating the Tridentine Mass only. For the New Order of the Mass, the mitre and the bent papal cross is appropriate for it.I sorta hope not – at least not any time soon. The use of the fan and the mobile chair seems to impart a certain effete character today. I would much prefer a strong pope who can march amongst the people wearing the mitre of his fellow (western) bishops, and a church that’s not so full of flies and oppressive heat that the pontifical celebrant needs to be fanned…
I don’t believe there is a official or “real” papal staff/crosier…I agree with you about not using the flabellium and the sedia gestoria, but I would like to see Pope Benedict XVI to wear the tiara and use the real papal staff or papal crosier (upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/6b/San_Silvestro.JPG/180px-San_Silvestro.JPG) when celebrating the Tridentine Mass only.
