The HHS Mandate is a direct attack on our first liberty and an assault on all people of faith. We MUST stand together to defeat it.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

St.John Fisher,pray for us!

St.Thomas More, pray for us!

It"s an invitation by the U.S. Bishops to join them in saying a daily prayer from June 21 to July 4.

The prayer:

O God our Creator, through the power and working of your Holy Spirit,
you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world,
bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel to every corner of society.
We ask you to bless us in our vigilence for the gift of religious liberty.
Give us the strength of mind and heart to readily defend our freedoms when they are
threatened; give us courage in making our voices heard on behalf of the rights of your
Church and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith.
Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father, a clear and united voice to all your sons and
daughters gathered in your Church in this decisive hour in the history of our nation,
so that, with every trial withstood and every danger overcome–for the sake of our children,
our grandchildren, and all who come after us-- this great land will always be
“one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
AMEN.

What is the Fornight for Freedom?
To explain in length:
The U.S. Human Health Services Act (HHS) would require Catholic Institutions to offer contraception, abortion, and family planning services to all of its employees. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has continually asked for exemption from the providing these services, since they contradict with our faith, but the government has yet to do anything about it for us, although they’ve given various forms of exemptions to other religious groups (e.g.: the Amish, Christian Scientists). Fortnight for Freedom is a period of intense prayer and fasting the USCCB has called for to move towards the proper exemptions for the Church’s organizations. It begins this Friday, June 22, and ends July 4th. For local events, you can check your Diocese’s website, or ask your pastor.
The entire concept isn’t about health care, or technicalities, or the letter of the law, it’s about religious freedom.

Hope that helped.

Yup, I’m in.

I’ve been “in” since I first heard about it. The Fortnight for Freedom isn’t just about the administration’s HHS mandate. It’s about the interference of the state in the mission of the Catholic Church. And by extension, the assault on religious liberty isn’t just about the relationship of the Catholic Church with the US government. Any and all churches or other religious bodies can be prone to the same type of interference.

I downloaded the prayer from the USCCB website (still hunting for the actual holy card,) and forwarded the prayer to just about everyone in my address book, which includes a few devout Jews and a Muslim colleague, along with a smattering of Buddhist colleagues and a couple of friends who identify as atheists, agnostics, pagans, Wiccans, and an old Longhouse friend from the reservation where I grew up. I stressed to them the importance of this in everyone’s liberty, and was struck with some of the responses. One of the agnostics promised to send out what she called “good thoughts for the protection of the rights of all in our country.”

Since my time is pretty much my own, other than when I’m actually at work, I plan on attending Mass every day during the Fortnight for Freedom. I also plan (weather permitting) to fly my American flag every day through the Fortnight.

I’d like to remind people of the following:

Benjamin Franklin, on the signing of the Declaration of Independence: “We must hang together, or we most assuredly will hang separately.”

Niemoeller: “First they came for the Jews, and I said nothing because I was not a Jew…”

May God save my beloved United States from herself!

Check out this link to the Bishops’ webpage for an explanation of all of the activities that will be undertaken for the next 14 days in support for religious freedom. That includes Holy Hours, prayers, fasting, novenas, catechesis, and concrete ways we as catholics can take action to support and defend our religious freedom.

In my dioceses every parish will be holding extra events to support the Fortnight for Freedom. The women of my dioceses have stepped up and organized themselves to publically oppose the HHS mandate. The media really sees the Catholic Church as being led by a bunch of old men, and that we have checked our brains at the door. It’s important that we all set the record straight and correct the media’s uninformed position and stand together against this mandate. If there is a church that is supportive of a woman’s dignity and pro-family, it is the Catholic Church. 🙂 The laity will make the difference in the success of the opposition.

So to answer your question… yes I will fast, pray, and actively participate in the Fortnight for Freedom which includes writing to my elected representatives. 😉

PS Odile53… I love your quotes! 👍

I’m looking forward to it. There are quite a number of activities throughout my diocese.

Thank you. I understand very well the HHS mandate, just didn’t know what the “Fornight for Freedom” was. I will most definitely join in this prayer.

Not to be a negative nancy but what does this have to do with Apologetics?

How about inviting other Christians, both Catholics and nonCatholics, to join us in the Fortnight for Freedom. They may get intersted in other aspects on the Catholic Church. 😉 :tiphat:

What is HHS?

Ignore my post as I see someone has answered that question already.
