Fasting, no, because fasting on Saturdays is prohibited by the canons and the Apostolic Tradition, except for Holy Saturday.

Prayer, yes, but then Orthodox Christians already should be praying daily for Christians in Syria, as per the requests of our hierarchs.

We never quite get it though!
 
I am Catholic and you address non-Catholics, but I wish to say that I will fast and pray for peace, in union with the intentions of the Holy Father.
 
There is a thread started in the Prayer Intention section of the forum also for anyone interested. I realize many Catholics pray for world peace daily also.

I am a Catholic and I am praying for peace in Syria but due to a physical problem (hypoglycemia) I cannot fast, at least from food. I will look for something else to fast from today.

(I think it is interesting that those in the Government think the situation in the Middle East, with innocent civilians being killed, is horrible, and it is. But those same ones have no problem with all the innocent BABIES being killed right here in the good old USA every day at abortion clinics. In fact some even think it is a “blessing from (g)od”:confused:)

Interesting point that I notice many don’t seem to get. Doesn’t that same point also stand for Catholics and Christians who “do” think abortion is just, well, “equal rights”.

Just saying…“double standard”.?

The Pope is asking all people of good will to pray for peace in Syria. God Bless, memaw.

I believe that is the reason why our Country is in the trouble it’s in today. Our disregard for the value of human life. Culture of death, Pope John Paul II appropriately called it. We are allowing them to push God and HIS Laws right out of our Country. God have Mercy on us all. God Bless, Memaw

The whole thing started with Ms Ohare back in the 60s when she petitioned to have prayer taken out of public schools. (interestingly enough her own son became a Protestant Christian and he might even had become a preacher:thumbsup:) But since she did that some 50 years back this country has gone to h**l in a hand basket:(

I trust in Jesus lots more than ever before becoming Catholic. Just saying I believe that Ms O’Hare was where it began when she had prayer taken out of the schools.
