I knew when I married my husband that he had been a drug and alcohol addict, that he had joined NA, found God and used His grace to get clean and stay clean for 18 years. I knew that he had started using very young, but I didn’t realize just how much that drug and alcohol use had impaired his ability to function. Fast forward 14 years and he’s a sober, loving, faithful, and loyal husband and father. He loves us and he is trying his best, but he just can’t be a helper to me like I need. Yesterday, I found out about a very large financial mistake that he made that will take months, and a good chunk of our savings, to fix. As usual, he kept the problem from me until it exploded. I am exhausted from working two quite stressful jobs and caring for our special needs son at night. I can’t do everything, but I can’t count on him for help with the major things that are so stressful right now. Going to a half time job and doing small jobs around the house seems to be all he can manage.
He’s a good man and I’m trying as hard as I can, but I just can’t be the wife AND the grown-up/leader in our house AND the mom and, and, and.
Please, if you will, pray for us that I will steadily fix this problem, keep my temper better and find a way to balance our lives so that I’m not so overwhelmed…
