Will you purchase the Passion of the Christ?

I plan on buying several copies to put in Christmas gift baskets along with jars of my homemade brandied pears, jalapeno jelly, pear mincemeat, strawberry jam, and tomato salsa - medium hot!
Never too early to think about Christmas!! 🙂

I won’t purchase it, but not for any of the choices in the poll.

My parish is buying a copy and will probably show it every year during Lent. I imagine that for the rest of my life whatever church I belong to will be doing the same. It was a wonderful film but I wouldn’t pull it out when I feel like watching a movie. I’d watch it with more of a purpose in mind like participating in a discussion afterwards.

In Christ,
Nancy 🙂

What a strange list of choices.
I saw the movie, I was moved by it but I don’t want to buy the DVD.
I’m sure a lot of people who saw the movie and enjoyed it will not buy the DVD. Why was this obvious choice overlooked.

I guess I should have put the choice if you liked it period. But I guess in my excitement of seeing it in all the adds this weekend, I just thought that everyone who really liked it would purchase it. But I am glad that you stated your opinion anyway.
I am still new at this survey stuff so cut me some slack please… In the future I will try and post all possible choices.

Neither my DH or I saw the movie, but we will most definitely purchase it. For several reasons: to encourage other filmmakers to step out in faith and make more movies like this; so we can watch it and be able to pause or take a break if necessary. I don’t do well viewing any kind of brutality. DH said that he thought watching Jesus go through all that would be like watching a close friend go through it, and he would have trouble with that, although he can watch gory movies.

Peace,
Linda

My daughter surprised me with the VHS tape today. She got it at Wall Mart for just $10.96! Great teaching tool. Protestants love it and it is from our ( Catholic) interpretaion of the bible.

I have not heard that the Protestants love it and am very glad to know that. Great price! I will have to tell my daughter she lives at WallMart…

I had seen the movie twice with friends and loved it!!
Got my Passion DVD today, and rewatched it. My husband had not seen it, and he watched it today with me. It was very moving and I think it deserves an Academy Award for best picture and best actor.

There weren’t any poll options for me.

I saw it the night I moved to Japan. It was very good and I thought stuck to the original ‘script’ rather well. The terrible Sorrow our Holy Mother must have felt was very well portrayed…

I don’t think I will buy it anytime soon though. It is still very fresh in my mind, and raw on my soul (much like the images of 9/11).

There is a Priest friend of ours who many years ago gave a very good oral description of the scourging. It was exactly as I saw in this film.

I’m just not ready to see it again… especially when it plays so vividly in my mind during the Sorrowful Mysteries!

Neither me nor my Protestant husband have seen it. Whenever anyone tells us "You MUST do this’ we tend to NOT do it…whatever it is. 😛 (we had an untraditional wedding for much the same reason… 😛 )

However we will probably at least rent the DVD and watch it to see if we can form our own opinions away from the hoopla. If we like it, then we will buy it.

I confess I have a problem with watching ‘one on one’ violence. I can watch a war movie where there are masses of people going at each other but I can’t watch one person being beat up and tortured. I had a hard time with "Gangs of New York’ for that very reason (well…that and the nudity).

Like someone else said…I’m looking forward to the extended Return of the King DVD more. If POTC follows current trends I would assume they will also have an Extended edition out in about a year or so.

I purchased the video yesterday. I saw the movie 6 times during the long period it showed here (Ash Wed. to late May) and it changed my life.

Now, I don’t have a DVD player, and I don’t have a very large screen TV (not being either a movie watcher or much of a TV watcher, and my flat is small)
I sat down last night to watch the video (no time to watch more than a third of it) and I’m having a tremendous struggle with disappointment, understandably, because after the large screen, the vastly better picture & sound quality of the movie theatre, it’s a real let down, and that surprised me, but it shouldn’t have. I guess this is just an initial and superficial reaction, and because I saw it so much more frequently than I’ve ever seen a movie. It’s impossible for a video to have the same impact, but I’m mighty glad I’ve got it, anyway. I’ll keep it for Lent, mainly. I do think I might have been better not to have viewed the movie so many times!!
Those who never saw the movie will not have the same reaction as me, I’m pleased to realise.

I have not seen it yet. Glad to hear all the possitive respones. I will get it.

Did’nt the Pope say he liked it?

Peace in Christ,
Steven Merten
