This morning, I was struggling with thoughts about my Evangelization work on another website, in which I was arguing with an atheist (not the same as the other one who’s arguments I posted on here) who was ignoring and dodging me arguments. I was thinking about calling him out on it, or the very least suggesting it, and wondering if that would anger him, and possibly other atheists watching and lead to a heated argument. The angry thoughts I struggled with over imagining that scenario led me to think about my past run-in on another site, I know should be over that, but just recently I discovered that both, the Traditional Catholic sub-forum I wanted to join closed down, and those people on the main Catholic sub-forum may be possibly leading another soul astray.

Anyways, thinking about that led me to start thinking having more arguments with them, and in thinking about those arguments led me to start using a euphemism for the f-word right at them. I’m worried because not only did I think these thoughts willfully, so much so, that I actually took pride in being so clever, but it was also done in the context of something holy, namely the Church, and her Dogmas.

Did I commit a mortal sin? Both, right now, and when I went up to receive Holy Communion, I thought I didn’t but after receiving Holy Communion, I had real hard time focusing on Jesus and Loving Him, and throughout mass I had real hard time shaking the angry and upset thoughts over the whole situation.

I need help.

I think what you experienced was righteous anger. I don’t see any sin in that. Heated arguments can easily descend into crassness and unkind thoughts. That’s very human. Don’t forget the “Sons of Thunder.” Jesus made a bit of a joke of their suggestion that he “call down lightening” on a few people who angered them.
