I just listened to a debate enititled “Atheism vs. Christianity” and a lecture entitlied “Are There Objective Truths About God?”. William Lane Craig seems very knowledgable in the philosophical arena and articulates his message quite well. I am wondering if anyone here can give me any insight on William Lane Craig and if he parallels the Catholic philosophical view on objective truth. Thank you.

Regarding objective truth, I believe Craig holds to a correspondence theory, which is what Thomas Aquinas held to. Other than that, Craig is a Molinist, which is in line with Catholic teaching (although it’s not official Church dogma). He’s also an evangelical Protestant, so a number of differences are going to come to surface if you listen to/read enough of his works.

I like the fact that he considers Catholics to be Christian, though.

Thank you. So for philosophical purposes his teachings are within the pale of orthodoxy. Would that be reasonable to assume?

For the most part, yes. I would recommend his work for those interested in the “Mere Christianity” type of apologetics.

That is how I saw him in my limited exposure. Thank you for your reply and God bless…teachccd 🙂

He does very well against non-believers. He will be debating Ayala this month.
Thank you very much. Yes I saw a 2 1/2 hour debate of his on YouTube against an atheist and I was amazed at how well he did. God bless…teachccd 🙂

By the way, you may wish to check out his website: reasonablefaith.org

You will have access to a number of his debates/lectures, as well as a host of scholarly and popular articles. Hope this helps!
