FROM YOUR EARLIER POST:
As long as you dress reverently. Be sure your wife wears a black veil (black is for married women, white is for un-married) and that you and your children all dress reverently as well. No flip flops, t-shirst, short pants or anything like that.

Maybe it’s just me, but I would find the statement you made about “making sure your wife wears a black veil” as dictating what people wear…

Your posts have been flavored with quite a bit of intolerance towards anything related to Vatican ll. I wish you could step back and see how you sound on here. I realize you are very passionate about your traditional beliefs, but there is no reason to be self-righteous about them. I’m sorry you feel that you were attacked, but I feel you are attacking everyone that doesn’t attend TLM or believe exactly as you do.🤷
My posts have been labeled as nothing but “nonsense” on here. Yet I have not said anyone’s posts were heretical, nonsense, etc, nor have I cussed or violated any forum rules. This person asked for advice, I gave him my honest opinion. If I had said “Your wife better wear a veil or just don’t bother showing up” then yes, that would come off as dictating. But that’s not what I said. I simply gave a suggestion. I do not “attack” anyone on these forums. There is no need for an argument on this thread.

Well, again, I ask you to step back and read your posts …I realize you are passionate about your beliefs, but these are but a few sentences from some of your posts on several different threads. I would think that saying ethnic masses (multi-cultural liturgies) aren’t the Church, the NO is sacreligious, and Vll brainwashed people is a little over-the-top:

Multi-Cultural liturgies are not really the Catholic Church.

No, the Novus Ordo is valid in the sense that it is a Mass. But in a way it’s sacreligious.

The Vatican II Council simply brain-washed people into thinking that tables and altars
were the same thing so nobody would notice…

Perhaps you don’t think there is anything wrong with those comments you made, but I find them quite insulting.

Bad advice? You either have never been to a TLM before, or if you have you did not notice that all (or atleast most) women had their heads covered. Women are supposed to have their heads covered, usually by veils.
Yes you gave bad advice because you made it sound as if it’s a requirement:
1.-As long as you dress reverently. **Be sure your wife wears a black veil **(black is for married women, white is for un-married) and that you and your children all dress reverently as well. No flip flops, t-shirst, short pants or anything like that.
The rest of your comment makes no sense at all. I attend the EF every other week. You couldn’t deduce if I did or did not based on my comments. You were merely taking a shot at me.

I don’t care “that all (or at least most) women had their heads covered.” I care what the Church directs us to do and it no longer directs women to cover their heads during the Mass (either the OF or EF Masses!) based on a change to Canon Law.

I also care about turning people off. At the very first EF Mass in this area after the promulgation of the MP, thepriest said all the women needed to cover their heads. He was wrong and it caused a stir right out of the gate.

Then offer it as an opinion! You made it sound as if it were some sort of requirement and it’s not.

You attacked me when you said I do not attend the EF. You had no idea if I did or did not.

I fully agree with you! 👍 I am tired of such comments too. They do nothing but drag traditionalism down Those comments are not only ignorant, they are mean spirited.

Hi, I am thinking of starting to attend Latin mass at a small traditional catholic parish close by and I had a couple of question.

1.Uniforms seem to include prairie dresses and veils for the girls and matching suits and ties for the boys. Do we have to dress this way to attend mass or will any dressy clothes do? I went not long ago and I could tell everybody was staring at the way we were dressed and we felt really out of place. I think that it was because my wife was wearing pants which seems to be a big no no.
2.There seems to be a 9 child minimum for attending mass. The thing is my wife and I are infertile and I am worried when we don’t squirt out any more children everyone will start to gossip and assume we are using contraception. Should I just come out and tell them we can’t have any more children or wait until they ask?
3.There is a little “leader” to the community and he seems rather nosey. He has no problem butting into very intimate details of people’s lives from where they work to the clothes they wear. I like the priest but really the man who organized the mass and put everything together really rubs me the wrong way. I am worried I will start a row by attending mass but not listening to the spiritual leader and simply dismissing him. How do I deal with him without making any waves?

I do feel stuck because it seems one parish is rather liberal, wimpy, and unorthodox and the other parish is just plain nuts.
Why worry about what other people at church think?

And if the nosy guy starts butting into your life, just tell him to mind his own beeswax.

Are you familiar with the 1962 Rite, or will this be your introduction to it? I just attended my first Extraordinary Rite Mass last month. Baronius Press has a good Extraordinary Rite missal out in print.

Head coverings for women are not addressed in the CIC of 1983, and considering that canon 6 of the current Code specifically abrogates the CIC of 1917, the latter’s canon 1262 must be regarded as no longer in effect.

One source can be found here.

Well, you do realize that this is the Traditional Catholicism part of the forums, right? Therefore, there are going to be Traditional Catholics here (including myself) who have something against the NO. I’m not the first one here to dis-agree with things going on at the NO. I’m actually surprised to be getting bashed on this part of the forums since this section is primarily for Traditional Catholics. Sure, people are free to post anywhere they want, I guess I just didn’t expect people who aren’t Traditional Catholics to post here so often. But just as well I suppose, it at least gives those who are traditional the chance to stand up for what they believe in when it comes to debating about it. Although since this is the traditional section, it makes no sense to report me to a moderator when I’m only doing what I’m allowed to do.

By the way, I meant CITH at the NO was sac-religious, as well as a few other things there that don’t make sense to me and several others. I have the right to post my opinion.

I can understand where he’s coming from here; everybody wants to go to a parish where they can feel part of a community. That is, after all, why Catholic culture in the United States was so strong up until the 1970’s: the parish was the center of community life. If you look at strong and healthy parishes today, its the same way.

If you have no other choice, than you just grin and bear it, but nobody wants to be part of a parish that is just a place to go on Sundays, receive Communion, pray, and leave. It should be a sort of home in the ideal situation.

Dear SpiritusSanctus,

No one here bears you or your right to your own opinion any ill will. Please listen to that and understand it.

It is the way you present your thoughts that is, frankly, insulting. If you would listen closely, you might hear many of us expressing very similar viewpoints to your own on many topics. But you seem to automatically assume that anyone who disagrees with you in any small detail is seeking to attack your entire belief system.

I’m sure you are a great person, but a review of your threads here paints a combative, angry, and obstinate picture of traditional Catholics. *** I know traditional Catholics are not that way.*** Please, in the best interest of advancing your own point of view, consider toning it down.

Example:

Conversation One
“I attend the OF, I don’t get those EF folks, what’s the deal?”
“Well, if you insist on going to that travesty of a liturgy, I can’t help you!”
“Oh yeah, well, I’m taking my ball and going home!”

vs

Conversation Two
“I attend the OF, I don’t get those EF folks, what’s the deal?”
“We really love Christ and His Church and want to worship Him in a beautiful way”
“Oh, that sounds cool…could I visit sometime? I’ve been afraid to go to a TLM alone, but you seem really nice”

Yes, this is the Traditional forum. No, it is not limited to TLM-attenders only. If you post thoughts on a discussion board, you’re going to get discussion. If you want to only hear opinions that match your own, have these conversations after Mass with some friends over coffee.

I pray that God may richly bless you.

Perhaps you are getting the cold shoulder because some of the women who “squirted” out nine children felt your language was a bit crass?

I also found that a very troubling comment. Every child is a precious gift.

No, the only thing I’ve ever done is smile and nod.

Well, in all charity, that may be your opinion, but it is not a rule of the Church. I will take a moment to inform you that putting such opinions on here only stirs up trouble and discord. In fact, the person that you just posted your reply to has been stirring up discord with his opinions that are not done charitably…have you not read the past couple of pages??🤷

Why not? Provided they’re not of the “sprayed on” variety (whether or not they’re jeans), what’s the problem with trousers (or “pants” as they’re more commonly called in North America)? I should think decent pants (or trousers, as one prefers) are at least as appropriate as (if not more than) the prairie dresses mentioned in the OP.

I would take a guess that someone is taking the verses about women aren’t to dress like men and vice versa out of context again…If we’re going to be strict adherents to that piece of scripture, men should be in togas and tunics!!!

Could well be. I was actually thinking of kilts, but togas are good too. 😃

I appreciate your animated response. For one thing, I personally feel that a man should, at the very least, wear smart/business casual attire during Mass upon “regular” days and suits upon feasts, solemnities, and the like. Should why should a lady wear a pantsuit(which I feel is ugly anyway) there? A decent dress(as long as it is not gaudy or the like), perhaps with a little jewelry is more suitable.
