Hey so I help out after mass but after receiving communion a few weeks ago I wiped my hands with a tissue after receiving communion by hand (probably my OCD but I was worried about handing things out for people to take home without first wiping my hands) but I’ve since been worried about if I can throw the tissue out or not (I’ve left in coat pocket since then) what do I do, is it okay to throw it out or what?

Don’t worry .

I never wipe my hands after receiving Holy Communion .

I have never seen any specks from the Host on my hand . If I had I would just lick them off .

If this is really troubling you have you considered receiving Holy Communion straight on to your tongue ?

I do prefer by hand to be honest, they only thing that troubles me is that I did wipe my hands and don’t know if I can just throw the tissue out now, I will say through that The Holy Communion I receive doesn’t often crumble but stays in one piece.

Look at your hands after receiving Holy Communion .

It’s unlikely in my experience that you will see any parts of the Host on your hand . If you do clean them off with your tongue . Then if for any reason you need to wipe your hand with a tissue you will know there are no parts of the Host on it , and you can discard it without worry .

Whether we receive Holy Communion straight on to the tongue or on to our hand first , we can never be 100% certain that no specks of the Host have fallen somewhere . We shouldn’t be unduly over concerned .

You clearly have great respect for the Lord in the Eucharist , so trust Him . He chose to give us His Body in this way .

Yeah. It’s okay to throw it out.

If you want to be safe, put the tissue in water. This will cause the accidents of bread to dissolve, so there will be no more Body. Then, poor the water and bury the tissue in a place that will not normally be walked on. This is how the vessels are cleaned after Mass if there is no sacrarium, except you are disposing of the tissue as well.

This is what I personally would do.
