Ecclesiastes 1:18 sees to imply as much. It appears to contradict Socrates’ belief that wisdom is sufficient for happiness

To the Catholic, wisdom is a gift of the Holy Spirit one receives at Confirmation. A gift that brings sorrow?? I have trouble believing that.

Right, like if you’re wise on matters of life maybe it’s because you’ve been brought down by life many times and learned the hard way.

Remember that Ecclesiastes was written before Christ, so those people couldn’t have wisdom of Christ!
I think Ecclesiastes is far too timeless for it to be affected by the coming of Christ

I think the point of Ecclesiastes is to show a life without God, and that life only has meaning if there is a God. Which would be a timeless concept, before and after Christ’s coming.

I completely agree with this. The whole bible is about Jesus. The Old Testament prophecies point to Jesus as the answer to sin instead of animal sacrifices and the New Testament is clear Jesus is the savior and the new sacrifice to atone for sins, ours and those of the whole world.
