Since according to the film “2012” we only have about 60 days left I’m wondering if there is any point in spending additional energy on issues like same sex “marriage…” or should we keep fighting the good fight right up until the end?

(activate tongue in cheek mode)
I plan on making my absolute fortune before that sixty day deadline.
I am investing in handbaskets.
I predict this current generation will find them very useful as transportation.
(Insert innocent expression here!)

Don’t jump on the grenade just yet.

It is not the end of the world. It is the end of a cycle-like: spin and rinse. Our planet’s “wobble” cycle ends on 12/21/12 and then…starts again.

Will there be changes?..maybe. What kind?..nobody really knows. But it will not be the apocalyptic end foretold in scripture.

So…put the pin back in the grenade and continue to live a life of prayer and a life of the spirit, nurtured by the sacraments-especially the Sacrament of Confession and Communion.

Pray the Rosary everday and do alll the basic catholic things really, really well.

I’ll talk to you again on or about 12/22/12. 🙂

Just because the Mayan Calender ends, the North Pole points to the center of the galexy, and it is the winter solices does not mean the end of the world . . . Or maybe it is. We’ll know in about 60 days.:onpatrol:

If you’re not planning on needing it anymore, can I have your car?

If you believe anything out of Hollywood, I have a wonderful bridge spanning the East River, going to Brooklyn for sale!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Fight the good fight.

Not long ago I was getting some solicitation from a reputable financial company that claimed to be selling lots in South America for people who want to have a place to ride out the coming “end times”.

I don’t think the solicitation had anything to do with the Mayan calendar. It had more to do with economic issues.

There does seem to be an element of pessimism or uncertainty that is out of proportion to world events compared to periods in the past.

There may be an explanation for this. Read about something called “Richardson’s Law”.
One paper that can be downloaded is: “From Billiard Balls to Sand piles…” by Cederman.

Richardson’s Law is a statistical anomaly in international relations that shows that there is a constant relationship between war frequency and war intensity. This anomaly is called a power law.

The most common explanation for a power law system is that some unknown “tension” builds up in the international system over time, and this “tension” is released in war including world wars.

This “tension” may be at the root of the pessimism and uncertainty that people are feeling.

I’m having a huge blowout that night. Good thing the world ends on a Friday night, so we can stay out late 🙂

I wonder off the end of the world will be like in the Simpson’s movie. Everyone in church runs to the bar, everyone at the bar runs to church…

I hope the OP was being sarcastic. But I read somewhere that NASA actually hired a person to field all the “end of the world in 2012” letters and emails they received. And some of these letters are very sad as people talk about killing their loved ones before 12/22 so they won’t have to see them suffer and other scary questions.

Just shows that there are a lot of people out there who need our prayers.

Just look at the happy, post-Apocalypse family here- not a plague ridden, Raccoon City zombie in the bunch! atlassurvivalshelters.com/

Of course, if you are more socially inclined and desire more of the amenities, there is www.terravivos.com There are even images of the pre-disaster world on the walls. I’m still waiting for my invitation…

i heard something about the world not ending but we will enter a new age of consciousness and the world will be totally peaceful, or something like that…idk. anyone else heard this?🤷

I think that the world will only be peaceful when Death and Hades are thrown into the lake of fire. (Rev. 20: 14). Bring it on, Lord!

Really?

If you remember where you read that let us know. There are so many doomsday predictions, and predictors, out there that sometimes I wonder if that is what some people want. Some people may want to bring on global calamity because of some crazy belief that this will result in the return of the Messiah who will reward them?

In my opinion, theoretically, if there is some unknown “tension” that builds up in the world that causes conflict, then you could diffuse that “tension” if you could spread just a small number of behaviors / practices that lead to a “waking up” or improved consciousness.

Unfortunately, I am probably not awake myself, so I have not figured out for sure exactly what those “wake-up behaviors” are.

My hope is to explain this in a paper, if I can “wake up” myself. It may also be possible to spread those “wake up” behaviors in a population.

This may be important because the last two periods of global conflict were:
  1. Napoleonic wars: ~5 million casualties.
  2. WW I, WW II: ~100 million combined casualties.
  3. Expected casualties WW III: ?
“Wake up” enough people and no WW III.

Everything does matter! Every little thing we do matters. 🙂 We should keep fighting until our last breath for social justice.

I hope you’re not one of those ignorant “gotta use the government to feed the poor because it’s the only way to do it” while “abortion is admissable” people. The Disney cartoon does not give me much confidence.

That’s not how it works. Reason? Some kind of cosmic wakefulness on the part of human beings is neither the driver or the remedy.
