My pension check came in today so I was feeling kinda of rich. I called Debbie and asked her what she was doin for lunch.
“Look here, you wanna meet me up at Longhorn for lunch?”
“Yeah, mind if Tammy comes?”
“No, but she’s gotta buy her own.”
“hush”
“I was just kidding, I’ll see y’all up there at 12:30pm. I’m gonna be out east anyway, I’m thinking about upgrading to a new Iphone.”
“whats the matter with the one ya got?”
“Nuttin, I just like having newest and best gadgets”
Tammy works in Debbie’s office, I don’t know her very well, but Debbie tawks about her often.
I went to the ATT store and ogled the new phone, but at the last minute backed out. My blackberry is only a year old. “I better get down to Longhorm.”
I beat the ladies on the scene, so watied for them in the waiting area. They were only a few minutes behind me.
I hadn’t seen Tammy (not her real name) in a year, and right away I could see she was, 1(pregnant, 2(recently delivered or 3( eatng too many happy meals.
Because I’m mature and wise about the world, I KNEW not to ask if she was pregnant. And to keep quiet unless she brings it up.
We sat down, put our order in, and made small talk. Eventually Tammy’s phone vibrated, and she excused herself to take the call. I saw my openig and took it, my curiousty was getting the best of me.
I leaned in to Debbie, “look here, does Tammy have one in the hangar?”
“Noooooooooo”
“ok, I was just checking”
Tammy came back and we ate lunch, it was good. Then this guy walks up in shiny shoes and wrinkled suit, he looked about 30 years old. His company sends him over Debbie’s every once in a while.
He was glad to see them and after exchanging pleasantries, he seemed nice enough. Then he makes a colossal mistake, but I saw it coming. Kinda like watching a train wreck in slow motion.
“Tammy! I didn’t know you were pregnant, how ya doin?”
I rose up, “ahem, I gotta take a call be right back”
Debbie grabbed me by the hand and pulled me back down.
“I’m NOT” Tammy said with a frown.
Man she was ticked off, and she wasn’t hiding it.
“well you look great, I’ll see y’all later?”
This guy was suddenly pale as a ghost. He was trying to get out of this and I was powerless. I wanted to throw him a life jacket but none were available.
She didn’t say much the rest of the time. Just kept goin "Humph, and other grunts. She was NOT a happy camper.
I couldn’t wait to get out of there. Finally I finished eating and bolted.
A couple hours later I called Debbie at the office. “Dang what was awesome.”
Yeah Tammy is still askin me, " Have I gained that *much *weight?"
“What didja say?”
“Not a whole lot, cos we’re not that good a friends, I’m just glad you didn’t say anything.”
“well you know I’m NOT that dumb.”
“she said she was goin to join a gym”
“dang”
So if ya don’t know, don’t say it, cause it might blow up.
