I HATE comments like that. 🙂

I was at Sunday School a few weeks ago with one of those flowy tops on. A mom of one of the kids from my class last year walked up to me and gave me a hug then congratulated me on my marriage.

Then she said.

Wow! You two sure must be busy! How far along are you? 3 or so months?

HMMMM…NO!

I know it was just the top, because I’m pretty thin…but seriously. I spent the rest of the day in the tightest shirt I owned making sure I didn’t look fat! Nathan just kept laughing at me. 🤷
I bought this really pretty flowy blouse…and it made me look pregnant (I’m not a skinny mini and pretty chesty too) So I wear it now that I am pregnant, and guess what? It makes me show less:confused:

I am a big girl anyway and I gained about 40 pounds during my pregnancy. About 2 weeks before delivery my face and feet were swollen, I’m limping because of sciatica in my right hip, and I was asked, “Have you had that baby yet?”

I wanted to reply, “Do I LOOK like I’ve had him?!?!?”

A gentleman must also becareful in the mother-daughter-grandmother scenario.

If you meet a older lady and a much younger don’t automatically assume they are grandmother-grandaughter. Could be mother-daughter. Sometimes you can get by without saying anything, but the flow of the conversation might be that you need to know.

In that case play it safe and say, “oh and this must be your daughter?” If not, she’ll take it as compliment and correct you. If she is, you’ll find that out too.

Well that’s not good either because when I was significant overweight and I would take my youngest brother with me everyone would tell me “oh your son is soooo cute!!” I am 8 years older than my brother, it’s a huge insult to feel I looked 16+ years older…Such comments are best kept far away from anyone…seriously they hurt…

I mentioned to our new PP a few years ago that I needed to talk to him about something. He guessed a Baptism! No, it was all me unfortunately.

But consider the other side of this problem.

You know someone is pregnant and then you don’t see them for two or three months and they haven’t put on any weight. Are they naturally slim during pregnancy (or starving themselves silly), had a miscarriage, or an abortion.

Even for women it is better to keep our mouths shut until we have been told what is going on.

Okay, here’s where i am guilty of betraying another female. My eldest son is more than a bit vain about his hair and one of his female co-workers “asked him” if he was going a bit thin on top, to get at him for some reason, they all got a bit out of hand at times in that office.

Panicking he phoned to ask if I had noticed. Taking my advice (mea culpa!) he asked her a few days later if she was having a baby. Later he told her it was a payback for the thinning hair comment and that he really didn’t think she had put on weight.

Daaaaang, I’m kinda like your son- kinda vain about my hair, especially since I gotta new do last month.

I’d forgotten about this, till the thread came back up. So I called Debbie just a few minutes ago.

“Hey what’s goin on/”

“Not much, 2 people out sick today”

“well it is Monday”

“so what’s on your mind?”

“I can’t call my wife to find out what’s goin on?”

“NOT what’s goin on with ME, its what’s goin on with YOU”

“well now that ya mention it, remember that day in Longhorn that guy with the shiny shoes was dogging Tammy cos he thought she was prego?”

“yeah”

“and later you told me she was gonna join a gym?”

“Yeah”

“well how’s that workin for her?”

“I dunno. Why ya bringing this up? I gotta about a thousand things I need to be doin”

“I just wanted to see what kind of mood she’s in”

“Why? You gonna take us to Longhorn today?”

“LOL, not hardly end of the month, you got all the money”

“poor baby, tell ya what, meet me at Subway at 11:30, but we’ll have to eat quick, I’m busy today.”

“That’ll work, because my other option is ramean noodles.”

So this thread comin back up got me a free lunch today :tiphat:

Bama, you’re a true gentleman! You’re my DH’s hero!

Here’s my embarrassing story: a few years back I used to work for a medical supply company. This was quite a few years back and even though there wasn’t too much extra of me to love back then as there is now (I have put on a few pounds… unfortunately all in the “baby-carrying area”), I was a little “fluffy” and the dress I was wearing rather emphasized that. So I was standing behind the low counter, helping a lady fill out an insurance form, when she suddenly leaned over and patted my not-quite-flat stomach and said, “So how far along are you?”

Okay, first off, I could have excused the comment, laughed it off… but she touched me. Not just touched, patted and almost did that circular rub thing you do when a dog rolls over on its back. So in answer to “How far along are you?”, I gave her the stink-eye and said, “Well, if I AM pregnant, about 16 hours!”

She turned about six shades of red! And when I got home, I gave that dress a decent burial and started cardio-karate!

I still look like I’m four months along, but I learned to camoflage it well!

Glad you got a free lunch out of it.

I had a little 5 year old daughter of a friend tell me last week “you look like you have a baby in your belly”.

Sigh. I was wearing jeans and a polo shirt, and yes, there is a layer of fat and a decreased musculature in my middle. I am 5’2" and 125 lbs. Not that big, but not that small either.

My big mistake was telling my dh the story. He has, since that day, suggested over and over different ways for me to exercise. When, where, how, etc…but never “how about I watch all the kids while you go for a walk by yourself”. That man seriously has no sense of his own mortality. 😃

So he was just gonna watch TV while you took the kids to the gym? LOL

Be very very careful Guy! Even mother/daughter can get you in trouble.

My wife has been called the ‘daughter’ a couple of times when she was with friends only a few years older than her. In one case, one of the alleged ‘mothers’ went out and had some facial work done!

Ah, no gym here unfortunately. Used to live near one that had a nursery. I was in GREAT shape! I need to start using the jog stroller again. It was so easy when I could drop off the kids and go run on the treadmill and lift weights for an hour. If any of the little workout places near me (there are a few about 15 miles away) would open a nursery, they would see a big rise in membership.

The dh has to do mandatory pt for work and gets 2 hours every morning at work, in their private gym, to do so. Kid free, unless you count his coworkers;)

Yeah, I could get up at 5 to work out I guess. The gym with the nursery spoiled me forever.

Ah yes, nothing like getting paid to work out. Although I still have access to the Fire Depts workout facilities (well equipped, funded, with all the amentities,) I no longer get paid to do it.

I also raid their pantry, read their paper, and mess with the thermostat when no one is around.
