In the first post, there are a number of things that I question. Granted, adventistnomore did post it respectfully, and I have no problem with him being of a differing mindset because of that. I think that one concern I will mention for this post is simply that he incompletely and innacurately stated our beliefs about Christ’s ministry in the sanctuary. The biggest reason, is perhaps, because he stated it in his own words, and that took a lot away from how we actually state it in our official belief statement.Dear Protestant 101,
My post was not directed toward a specific post on this threaad, but rather was in response to multiple posts. I have noticed that some posts by some participants were aimed at discrediting the original poster, without specificly explaining what part was an “error by emmission” or somehow incorrect in a different way.
What do you feel was left out from the first post? As a Catholic learning about something new, I would like to better understand this doctrine/Adventist teaching. If a key component was missing, that is important for this particular discussion, please let us know.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Maria1212
The comparison he made of our belief to the Catholicview thereof, and the Eucharist is a matter I will save for another post.
I will below state the official Adventist belief and underline in red what he left out, that I feel is quite essential, and without it, it waters down what we believe to what someone else believes we believe:
24. Christ’s Ministry in the Heavenly Sanctuary:
There is a sanctuary in heaven, the true tabernacle which the Lord set up and not man. In it Christ ministers on our behalf, making available to believers the benefits of His atoning sacrifice offered once for all on the cross. He was inaugurated as our great High Priest and began His intercessory ministry at the time of His ascension.
In 1844, at the end of the prophetic period of 2300 days, He entered the second and last phase of His atoning ministry. It is a work of investigative judgment which is part of the ultimate disposition of all sin, typified by the cleansing of the ancient Hebrew sanctuary on the Day of Atonement. In that typical service the sanctuary was cleansed with the blood of animal sacrifices, but the heavenly things are purified with the perfect sacrifice of the blood of Jesus.
**The investigative judgment **reveals to heavenly intelligences who among the dead are asleep in Christ and therefore, in Him, are deemed worthy to have part in the first resurrection. It also makes manifest who among the living are abiding in Christ, keeping the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, and in Him, therefore, are ready for translation into His everlasting kingdom.
If one wants to know what we believe, to better “witness” to us; it is likely best to give direct quotes with references in order to give the most credible view and approach. Adventistnornore essentially stated personal opinion. Too much in “apologetics” boils down to personal opinion which essentially destroys the truth of the matter. People like to call it “The Sanctuary Doctrine;” when, in fact; it is much more than a sanctuary doctrine. The official belief statement is called “**Christ’s ministry **in the Sanctuary,” not “The Sanctuary Doctrine.” The correct wording applied here shows how there are several of our doctrines that fall under the details of this special ministry of Christ. This judgment vindicates the justice of God in saving those who believe in Jesus. It declares that those who have remained loyal to God shall receive the kingdom. The completion of this ministry of Christ will mark the close of human probation before the Second Advent. (Heb. 8:1-5; 4:14-16; 9:11-28; 10:19-22; 1:3; 2:16, 17; Dan. 7:9-27; 8:13, 14; 9:24-27; Num. 14:34; Eze. 4:6; Lev. 16; Rev. 14:6, 7; 20:12; 14:12; 22:12.)
Also; it is not accurate to say that this doctrine was responsible for the formation of the Adventist Church; it was discovered during our early, formative years but was not in and of itself responsible for our Church’s formation. it is one of the central “pillars” but not the only one.
Also; the fact that adventistnomore gave forum members a classic “apologetics” approach, makes it one of the poorest ways to “witness.”
