Where can I find the correct teaching on Epph 5:21-27? Our priest says womem have a right to be upset at “Wives submit to your husbands” and that is not for this modern day culture.
Submitting to one’s husband doesn’t mean that she submits to an abusive environment or that she tolerates a man who is cheating on her. Submitting means that we look to our husbands as role models as men, and we don’t compete for that role within our homes. I’m the female authority…my husband is the male. We are different, yet strong, if we respect each other, equally. Men are to cherish and respect their wives too…that is the other component to that verse. But, again, God expects a lot of husbands. He wouldn’t want a man abusing that verse and twisting it to mean that women should bow down to men, and tolerate all types of behavior. It means that men must rise to the occasion to be Godly husbands, and women should respect those roles given to their husbands. I hope that helps?Where can I find the correct teaching on Epph 5:21-27? Our priest says womem have a right to be upset at “Wives submit to your husbands” and that is not for this modern day culture.
I get so sick of renegade, modernist priests who have no idea what they are talking about. It was never a matter of culture.Where can I find the correct teaching on Epph 5:21-27? Does the same submission apply, say, if a Catholic woman were married to a Protestant man?Ummm…that priest is way off. I submit to my husband in all matters of faith and educating our kids.
And, to further add, what if that Protestant man is anti-Catholic and forbidding the Catholic woman to attend mass?Does the same submission apply, say, if a Catholic woman were married to a Protestant man?
For a Catholic woman to marry a Protestant man requires (at least to be married in the Catholic Church) that they both agree to raise the children Catholic. Other than that, I would say yes… In somuch as the husband should decide which family or religious traditions are kept at holidays and how children are taught about God. I am not talking doctrine…just simply, we believe in God, explanation of the trinity, reading Bible stories to the children, etc… As for Catholic doctrine…that should be taught by the Catholic family member no matter the gender. A Father is a very powerful role model to children. He is usually the source of wisdom and dicipline in a home.Does the same submission apply, say, if a Catholic woman were married to a Protestant man?
Excellent point! All too often people pick and choose the passages that they need to fit their agenda’s without reading or referencing the rest of the important information.Why do so many people omit the rest of the passage?
25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her,
26so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,
27that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.
28So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself;
29for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, 30because we are members of His body.
When women have holy husbands submission is not difficult that’s the whole point…the submission is contingent upon the man’s worthiness to be submitted to…
Women don’t need to be offended by the passage…what they need to do is take a good hard look at their intended husband’s to determine whether or not he is worthy of her trust. If he doesn’t measure up…walk away.
