I like the disclaimer. Anyway, the first link did not open for me. The other two were good, but is there a source that does not seem to have a dog in the hunt? I would love to see a secular source for this. Also, I would like to know if this means that, at least in this case, is it like the “approved” bishops in China? How do our Orthodox brothers respond. I am not giving approval of it, I want all sides.

Again, was he a monk and was he married?

Wedding photo of Aleksei Ridiger and Vera Aleksjejeva from 1950. They were separated same year. Aleksei was made a monk in 1959. Vera subsequently remarried and had family in Riga.

Aleksij Ridiger monk becomes Patriarch Aleksij.

This is not unusual. Not so uncommon that if wife is to die or separate, priest then can become monk, and be chosen to be bishop. Do not know word “Woah” but if it voices any concern for morality of having a bishop who was married, please remember Bishops of Rome St. Hormisdas, Adrian II, John XVII, Clement IV, Honorius IV were all married before coming Bishops of Rome.

Thanks for that. The info I found online did not have them separating. Now, that part of the story makes sense. I have no issues with it.

“Woah” is the word American cowboys used to stop a horse. It means “stop.” No concern for morality is usually implied, it means someone needs clarification.

Would you agree that calling him an Agent for the KGB is a bit too much? He himself admitted that he cooperated with them to help protect people and the faith. What is your feeling on this?

“Woah” is what you tell a horse to make it stop. Here it means to stop the conversation and make some allegedly important point.
