a woman has been arrested for entering the public “art” museum in Loveland CO where the blasphemous print alleged to depict Christ in pornographic poses is on display. She broke the plexiglass cover over the print and had ripped the print to shreds by the time she was apprehended and arrested.

good for her.

people have free speech to protest sports mascots that insult their ethnic group (in their estimation) or when a TV commentator makes what they perceive as racial slurs, but Christians have no free speech in this country.

Unfortunately, I think this means that the artwork will become more popular than it was. Just as “Banned in Boston” used to be used to drum up business for some books, “Attacked in Loveland” will appeal to a certain crowd.

The value of the remaining 29 prints of that work will increase, not to mention the value of the original work, which was not one display (remember, this was only a print)

I’m not sure that the artist will authorize a new print run, but unauthorized reproductions may appear.

My mom was absolutely livid about this piece of “art” and I don’t blame the woman for her actions. I don’t think I would have had enough self control not to do the exact same thing. I can’t say I’m sorry she did it.

👍

You go girl. I wish I’d been there to see that.

Now, there’s another religion… if that artist had drawn their religious prophet, that artist and his family would be in hiding, to save all of their lives.

Imagine what the reactions would be if someone produced a similar work (I won’t call it “of art”) portraying Muhammad in a similar fashion?

For zeal for thy house has consumed me, and the insults of those who insult thee have fallen on me. Ps. 69:9

May God Bless her for standing up for the faith & truth. We should all have such grace and courage.

“It’s sad and upsetting,” Chagoya said Wednesday night by phone from California. “I’ve never had this kind of violent reaction to my art. Violence doesn’t resolve anything.”

I don’t understand what the artist was trying to accomplish? In what way does such a “work of art” glorify God? And even if they are a non-believer, there is still no reason to do that, as it is incredibly disrespectful.

I answered that for you (negatively) on page three of the other conversation going on about this over in the Catholic News subforum. 😉

She deserved to be arrested.

She destroyed private property.

We have laws. She clearly broke them.

I cannot commend her for this.

I have to agree with this. The same laws that protect this “art” also protect a local parish for having this statue which some would call unacceptable around children.

How would we feel if someone came into our parish and splashed white paint all over this statue because they thought it was offensive?

We have laws. This is not an unjust law. But it does cut both ways. If she didn’t like the display that was being put on then she could have protested in some other way. Sorry, I will not commend someone for breaking a just law that also protects my rights as a Catholic to worship as I desire.

A part of me cheered at the woman’s actions, however I KNOW it was not the right thing to do. The “artists” work was an ill-concieved attempt to gain some type of knee-jerk response and get some free publicity and this enraged woman helped the artist accomplish what they set out to do.

Boycotting works. Writing editorial letters works. Prayer works. Defacing someone else’s property only works for that moment of frustration relief but ended up putting her behind bars. We all know that Catholics are pacifists, for the most part and that is why we have always had such a big target on our backs. We do not fight back, we do not retaliate, we do not take revenge. As Peter rejoiced in Acts for being persecuted for the name of Jesus Christ, so we, too must bear all manner of insults without losing our Catholic principles.

There was a time when if someone made a work of blasphemy or witchcraft, it would be committed to the flames rather than allow it lead souls into the flames.

Those were good times.

If someone had made a similar painting of Muhammad they would’ve had their heads whacked off by now. Tearing up the painting is mild in comparison.

We should not compare our behavior to how others act.

We should compare our behavior to how we should act.
