You know, I was just going over the article again and was wondering what makes you think it is real and not a hoax? I mean some of the things people said, I’m thinking, “wait a minute, Muslims should know better, this doesn’t sound right”. Like where her brother says it is o.k. because it is in standing with Islamic law. There is no Islamic that says a father-in-law can marry his daughter-in-law as we (Muslims) have already stated. And the ones protesting didn’t even state this either, all they said was that a rape victim is guiltless (which in Islamic law is true). And the title makes no sense, “Muslims divided" how can we be divided if it says in the Quran that this man can’t marry that woman? It all sounds a little fishy to me. You shouldn’t believe everything you read.

Thanks those who participated in this thread. Finally I found that, the verdict given by Local Muslim Council is correct, according to Mohammed(pubh?) who also got married his daughter-in-law.

I’d love to know your source.

Maybe your mixing up the Bible with the Quran. The Quran does not force the woman to marry her rapist. Also, it clearly states that women can not marry their father-in laws.

Mohamed peace be upon him did not have a son who lived beyond the age of infancy/early childhood.

Mohamed peace be upon him had adopted a former slave as his son. Then, revelation came that prohibited the adopted son/daughter for taking the name of the family (as they have their own name and own line of heritage that shouldnt be messed up). Also, this prevents people from hiding the fact that the child has been adopted. It is made clear in the begining so the child doesnt end up traumatized to learn the truth later on.

Adopted sons are not the same as blood sons and therefore the prohibition on marriage does not exist.

Thanks for the link Selvaraj

So you now understand that this is not an Islamic ruling.
According to the link you provided:

The council’s order is totally against the teachings of Islam, which rule that a victim of rape should remain in her home and defend her rights along with her husband to whom her marriage is still valid, according to IOL’s Shari`ah Section.

The council’s order to the woman to stay away for seven months and 10 days to become “pure” was also baseless and has no backing in the Noble Qur’an or the Sunnah (Prophetic tradition).

Islamic teachings also call for inflicting no punishment on the raped woman. Rather she should be treated with dignity and honor."

The same reasoning was echoed by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, the top Muslim body in the sub-continent, which said the council’s order was not valid under Islamic Shari`ah.

No panchayat (village council) or moulvi (cleric) can force her to give up her existing marriage unless she wants to,” he added.

"The decision taken by the clerics is totally wrong and against the premises of the Qur’an," said board member Shahista Amber.

The punishment for rape in no way Islamic calls for marriage. It is laid out simply in Shari’ah:
  1. Punishment for Rape
Whoever commits rape, shall be punished:

(a) with caning of one hundred lashes if unmarried, and shall also be liable to imprisonment for a term of one year; or

(b). if married with stoning to death *(rajm)

*(c) in addition to either (a) or (b) above shall also pay the dowry of her equals (sadaq *al-mithli).
