Well, of course. I think we established there is no cure for those who already behaving poorly. For me I was just validating that this indeed happens since it seems as people were being dismissive of OP and acting as if it isn’t a thing.

I’ve been to dozens of churches in many parts of the country since the 1970s and have never witnessed hatred towards anyone. . All this hatred must be an Internet thing. Perhaps some of these haters are just posing as Catholics. And even if they aren’t it’s better just to ignore them. It’s not like you are stuck working or living with them everyday. There is probably not a person out there who has not experienced hatred directed at them on the internet. The internet has opened the floodgates for many people to misbehave in ways they never would in the real world.

We are all just posing as Catholics, we are all sinners. But yes, I think it’s an Internet thing. Anonymity affords us the ability to spew our darkness safely without getting punched in the nose.

It’s a bit like road rage really, where in the anonymity and safety of one’s car, one can behave badly with impunity. At least until the invention of the hands-free cell phone, as one enraged trucker dangerously tailgating me found out, when I called the police with a description of the 18 wheeler and the company name. He had a welcoming committee waiting for him when he arrived at the depot!

The nice constable called me back to say the driver had received a stern dressing down from his boss, reminding the driver of whose name was painted on the side of the truck. The officer suggested I was in my right to press charges, but I declined, as I thought the lecture from his boss was probably sufficient for a first offense.

Too bad a similar possibility doesn’t exist for Internet fora.
