Women are the majority in hell?

This question is for muslims.

Especially for muslim converts.

Many of you are aware of the sahih ahadith that states that women are inferior to men in intelligence and in the practice of their faith.

As well that the majority of the inhabitants of hell are women.

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:

Once Allah’s Apostle went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) on 'Id-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer. Then he passed by the women and said, “O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women).”

They asked, “Why is it so, O Allah’s Apostle ?”

He replied, “You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you.”

The women asked, “O Allah’s Apostle! What is deficient in our intelligence and religion?”

He said, “Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?” They replied in the affirmative. He said, “This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Isn’t it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?” The women replied in the affirmative. He said, “This is the deficiency in her religion.”

How did you manage to deal with this ahadith? how did you accept it, and still go on to practice islam?

Reading your question, I without knowing anything about you or your profile, I took you as a female asking this question, but in your other post you claim you are male.

Since you claim you are muslim and your wife is muslim but you are getting ready to be baptised into the Catholic church, what was your view as a muslim regarding the “women in hell” hadith?

Interesting that they think women will outnumber men considering that in China way more boy babies are brought to term than girls. I would guess other countries that permit unqualified abortions. even if not having a one-child coercive policy, would also see more boys being born than girls.

That is true. Overall, the natural birthrate slightly favors boys, but girls are more likely to reach maturity, giving us a close to 50-50 split. Women to live longer, but these numbers are just not likely.

I am not a muslim.

I think the ahadith has several problems with it.

Mohammed claimed that there will a day of judgement after the world had ended.

On that day of judgement all shall be judged and the some portion of the population will be damned to hell, for their sins.

Since this day has not occurred yet, Mohammed could not have known that the majority of people in hell would be women.

In reality Mohammed was a shrewd and wily man, who would make up things and claim the authority of speaking on God’s behalf to get his way.

At some point he was so successful at this, that he started to believe his own spiel.

Not really, islam is a war/slave ideology with a mandate to conquer the world… They’ll slaughter the males, or sell them as slaves, castrate them, and thereby get there 4 wives plus what the right hand possesses. How else can this degrading right for a man to his own brothel be justified?

I mean, other than when they’ve been weak, this is how islam has been put into practice for 1400 years. Continual razias into neighbouring lands.

A did you know moment. Ethiopia was the only country that the muslims did not conquer. The muslims were beaten there and apparently the Ethiopians knew they couldn’t maintain that, so they entered into an agreement with them to provide slaves. One of those damned if you do, damned if you don’t predicaments.

The meaning if the hadeeth is that women are more emotional than men . Thus emotions can to a larger extent affect their judgement than men. It doesnt mean that they are kess intelligent. The word ‘AKL’ in the hadeeth doesnt mean ‘‘brain’’ .

As for the majority in hell part, it means that women since the begining of creation till the last day of life will outnumber men . There is other indictaions in hadeeths that says that as well and not only in this context. Thus it isnt believed in Islam that eventually it will be 50% 50% distribution.

Where did you derive that women are more emotional than men from the hadith quoted, or is there an authentic source for your explanation?

This is a common understanding of the hadeeth that i have heared from many scholars.
 
Aql refers to common sense, at least in Urdu.

lacking aql would make the person lacking in what we call common sense.

In Shī‘ah jurisprudence, ‘aql is the process of using intellect or logic to deduce law. Legal scholars in both Sunni and Shī‘ah Islamic traditions share Quranic interpretation, the Sunnah, and Ijma‘ “consensus” as sources of Islamic law and judicial decisions (ḥukm). However, Twelvers of the Ja‘farī school of law utilize ‘aql whereas Sunnis use qiyas “analogical reasoning” as the fourth source of law.

Meedo,
This is interesting. Right now, in the world, it is more or less even. However, if we look at birth rate alone, more males are born to humans.

How does Islam account for that? Is it true that Islam teaches that at some point, women will outnumber men 50-1?

My main reason to try to explain the word Aql or Akl is to show that it doesnt mean Brain. It is the combined work between the brain and the heart. Thus emotions play a big part here .

The hadeeth doesnt refer to women intelligence. The hadeeth refers to womens nature of bieng more subject in general to emotions more than men .

Basicly teh hadeeth means that women can have more emotions in tehir decisions than men thus it can make thge decision not in the best directions.

The hadeeth that you are refering to mentions the word ‘’ Qayyem’’ .

The Word ‘‘Qayyem’’ in arabic means the person who runs the issues or the person who manages the matters.

It doesnt mean women will be 50 times more than men. It means that in some isntances on man can be responsible for running the issues and taking care of 50 women.

I’m thankful I’m not a muslim… :rolleyes:

Did you see the other Thread about… i think it was called Do More MEn go to Heaven than Women? That was interesting…

but anyway… women have just as much chance of going to Heaven as men… If they don’t make it as often as men, then i don’t know what to say. It does seem like women worship their husbands more than Christ a lot of the time… and/or their children… when Jesus told us we must hate everyone or we are not worthy of him… (yes, the word HATE is used and i don’t havae a problem with it… not a “bad” interpretation or anything like it… i totally understand the reality of that passage…) But anyway…

***my understanding is that not many of either gender makes it ***(Jesus… St. Mt 7:13-20… etc…)
