Women at the tomb

After watching “Jesus of Nazareth” for the Easter season, and reading through scriptures on the women at the tomb, I’m confused. All accounts talk about Mary Magdalene going to the tomb and finding the stone rolled away. But accounts of the other women are confusing. I had thought the Virgin Mary was one of the women, as well as another Mary, but in the movie his mother was not one of the 3.

What are others’ understanding about who the women were?

The Blessed Virgin does not appear to have been among the women, though “the other Mary” (possibly the mother of the men called Jesus’ “brothers”) seems to have been.

Possibly Our Lady was too grieved to see her Son’s body again so soon. Alternatively, on a happier note, there is a pious tradition (small t, of course), that she was in fact the first person to whom the Resurrected Christ appeared, in private, so that she had no need to go to the tomb.

I think “the other Mary” is the mother of James the less, or Mary of Clopas.

Mary, the mother of Jesus, is also said to have a ‘sister’ named Mary, who is likely a cousin or sister-in-law (who might also be one of the two Marys mentioned above.

Yes! Thank you! Mary of Clopas was one that I had heard of. But it would seem that my initial thought that the mother of Jesus was one of the women at the tomb is incorrect. She isn’t mentioned in any of the gospels.
