Women beating up men in movies...tv shows....why?

No… Oppressive men started the “men are oppressors” mindset. I have many smart, talented, accomplished and educated women in my family. I have seen them being discriminated against because of their lack of a certain fleshy appendage. It’s a real phenomenon. You stated it yourself-- women are still making less than men. Nobody invented the idea that men were getting a better deal than women. If you wiped NOW (and Helen Reddy) off the map, you will still have resentment, and it would come out in some other way. The only way to resolve the problem is to address the inequality.

HELEN REDDY?!? You can’t get anything more current than that? That song is 35 years old! Most people who listen to pop music today wouldn’t even know who Helen Reddy is. Maybe I’m out of line here, but I really don’t think Helen Reddy will be the cause of the destruction of our civilization.

I would love it if my daughter grew up listening to these lyrics. “I am strong. I am invincible! I am woman!” rather than the lyrics that suggest that women are to be objectified by men.

Your post reminds me of Rodney King’s famous quote, “Can’t we all just get along?”

As long as it can be shown that men make more money than women, that men get more opportunities than women, and that men are more likely to be promoted than women, then I suspect we men will continue to be seen as “the enemy”. When the speaker of the House of Representatives gets less respect because she is a woman, you can see where there would be resentment. When the code word for attacking prominent women is “shrill” or “emotional”, you can understand why women get angry.

I do not agree with you on this at all, yet I wonder what it all has to do with the attack on men on tv?

You miss the impact of a Secular Humanist organization on American families. It was destructive. Many women paid with their marriages. Many men were ostracized as the “oppressor.” I’m not just talking about the workplace, I’m talking about everyday families.

Women are not men. If Catholics allow Secular Humanists to tell us how to deal with problems between men and women, where is God in our lives? Is our Christianity only in Church on Sunday?

actually the helen Reddy song is a bit sexist. Why can’t you be strong as an individual and judged accordingly. I am not strong because I am a woman. The choices I make create inner strength in me. Plus no one is invincible, so the lyric seems a bit silly.

I have never bought the line that women make less money then men. We are all accountable for our choices that is a fact of life. More women choose careers that are lower paying then men do, plus more women take time off to have children then men do. Thus when you compare work, women earn less.

If you compare individual women under the exact same circumstances as men then they would probably be very even. If, for example, two physicians, one male and one female-with the exact same grades, time in work, asking for the exact same time off for having kids-are compared, it would be even in pay. Most of this is not taken into consideration when doing studies.

I am a woman and I am not angry at society. Currently, we live in the best time to be a woman. Compare this time period to any other and it is difficult not to be thankful for being born into the modern world.

By the way, if you were in the military, then you-as a male- would have to do a greater number of exercises then a female soldier for your annual fitness test. This despite the fact that you both do the same job. This rule is actually unfair for those women who are able to reach the male fitness because people assume that they are working on a lower level. Yet, I don’t hear about angry male soldiers asking for movies in which they beat up women just because life is unfair.
