I am trying to get a feel for how many women on these forums are discerning a vocation to the religious life.

If you are, what orders are you looking at?

I am looking at Dominicans and Missionaries of Charity.

I am looking at the Passionists. 🙂
Cool! I saw an ad for them in my Vision Vocation magazine.

If we get enough people here we can start a vocations thread for the ladies (I was beginning to notice that most of the people on the vocations forums were men:shrug: ).

I feel very strongly that I am called but I don’t know for positive sure…

And I like the Dominicans!

Hey, I am thinking about OP, too 🙂
Maybe I am working with a very nice sister at the railway mission, she is just great, and we have the noviciate here in my hometown for the males. But as I am rather “traditional”…hm.

But currently, I am looking into the adoration sisters of the Institute Christ the King, but I am really not sure if contemplative life is for me… I feel drawn to it, but have the fear/feeling (not sure what…) that I couldn’t manage it/am not called to it etc.

But I admire the carthusians very much 👍

Yay lots of Dominican types! If you really want some chatty discerners you guys should go to the Vocation Station forum at PhatMass, it’s much livelier than this one, and has a few Sisters who post occasionally.

Cran, if you like the ICK sisters, look into it! They are planning to move into “active mode” in time in conjunction with the priests in some way.
However, I have heard some unfavorable things generally about the ICK, but I do not know if they are true. There aren’t any in my area and I don’t know much about them.

Yeah…well…I kind of wanted to get something started here. If there are enough people - which I think there are - then we can start a “Thread for women discerning the Religious Life”.

It would be nice to have some sisters on here, though… Maybe one of us will be able to fill in eventually:D.

I have already made contact with them and got a telephone number from a German ICK-priest - they want me to contact him before they offer me an retreat (the sisters are ONLY in Italy so far). I a pushing it in front of me because I don’t like to phone people I don’t know 😊

I forgot to mention that I am also looking at these orders. I am still discerning whether to join a contemplative order or an active one.

I have tried to register at PhatMass twice with two different e-mails and I never got a confirmation e-mail to verify my e-mail address.

😦

I am not (I am married w/children), but just wanted to wish you well with this! I admire all men and women who pursue such vocations. If I were thinking of a vocation, I would go for the Carmelite order…something has always intrigued about those sisters. Prayers are with you as your discern the path God leads you to.🙂

Thanks to everyone who has replied so far! It looks like we currently have six people who think they have a vocation and two who aren’t sure.
Think that’s enough to start a thread. What do you think?

BTW - I have also looked seriously into the Carmelite order, but right now I think I need to be more active in order to share the fruits of my prayer life. I don’t want to hide my light (however feeble it may be) under a bushel, if you know what I mean. I have nothing but respect for all the contemplatives and I still haven’t ruled anything out (I have plenty of time to figure this out at age 16), but for now I am looking into more active orders.

I would say 6 is enough… after all, if we’re all praying for vocations, the number should only grow, right? (Can you tell I’m hopeful?)

I don’t think I personally am cut out for cloister or purely contemplative orders… but you never know! God may throw me a curveball…

🙂

Three make a group, as we say at university, so I’d say six is more than enough to start a thread 😃

I am visiting a Poor Clare monastery in a couple of weeks. It’ll be my third time visiting them in discernment. Pray for me!

I am currently, shall we say, confused. I feel an immense attraction to the religous life. But I feel an equal attraction to the possibility of marrying and having a family. So I have absolutely no clue where God wants me. But the religious orders I’m looking at are mostly contemplative ones.
