I’m a guy and I find women who wear pantsuits and tuxedos attractive, but I was just wondering if this might be wrong? I don’t know if suits are considered explicitly “traditional” male dress and thought it might be bad for women to wear them and a guy to like seeing them in it. Could very likely be overthinking this

I think you’re overthinking it, but most likely others won’t 😉 . I suppose “a guy to like seeing them in it” depends on what you mean by “like” - lust would be a problem but I don’t think simply liking a certain style on a woman is wrong. To give another example, there are many women who find men wearing a tuxedo attractive. There is absolutely no teaching from the Catholic Church about women wearing “traditional” male dress, though, so it’s not a problem for women to wear trousers.

I was kind of thinking similar. A shirt is a shirt and pants are pants. Men have men pants and women have women pants … to sound somewhat like Dr. Seuss haha. Yep, agree about the lust point. Always mindful of that. Thanks. God bless

Traditional male dress?

Kilts are a traditional male dress. So are women wearing skirts wearing traditional male dress because skirts resemble kilts?

Trousers may be traditional for men in some areas but not traditional for men in other areas.

As for liking to see women in pantsuits, if your appreciation is strictly aesthetic, there’s no wrong on your part.

Pantsuits for women are so “80s.” Haven’t seen one on a woman since, oh, Hillary Clinton.

I don’t think Jesus wore pants.
I read that men and women alike wore a long tunic undergarment to wrists and ankles, and an over-garment. The over-garment was different between men and women.

Just as today a woman’s suit can be distinguished from a man’s.

If you look closely, you can see the difference.

You mean like this? I think it’s a nice look. I’d get myself an outfit like that myself if I thought I’d ever get a chance to wear it!
and thought it might be bad for women to wear them
I tend to be rather alarmed by the tendency on this site for some people to think that it’s bad for women to wear certain things. To be honest, until I joined CAF, I didn’t know that there were Catholics who think women shouldn’t wear pants.

There are very few such Catholics. Even if you go to TLM there are quite a few women at Mass in modest pantsuits, or trousers and a blouse.

And I too thought of Dietrich right away!

I knew they were out there, and they’re perfectly entitled to their own opinion. I just didn’t know how obsessed some are with this issue. Being fixated on what other people wear is not healthy.

@do_justly_love_mercy Marlene is like synonymous with suits haha. Also think Eleanor Powell is absolutely beautiful. Don’t know if she was Catholic, but she had a deep love for God.

Trousers were designed for men and women to wear in the factories during the industrial revolution in England as they were more practical. It was actually a class and not gender discrimination as the upper class women wouldn’t be seen in working class attire. In fact when the Duke of Wellington turned up in trousers at Parliament there was uproar.

I’ve never liked the look of tuxedos on men, never seen them on women.

Men can make a fetish out of anything. I’m not saying this to be snide. I’ve had a hair fetishist come after me once at a church function, no less. He came up behind me and started creepily petting my head. It was one of the most violating things I’ve ever experienced. You could see it in his eyes how disturbed he was. It was all about his fetish and I wasn’t a person to him in that moment. Even women in burkas are fetishized by men. Anything a woman can wear could be considered ‘bad’ by a man or multiple men if they have some kind of fetish about it. Women can simply exist and be fetishized.
That’s a male problem- not a problem that women need to fix on their end.

Similar to this is when a man has a shaved head. Seems like almost everyone wants an excuse to rub on it. Women more so than men. And they don’t think this is a problem at all. If men need “custody of the eyes”, women need “custody of the hands”.
